When I was a child, the family lived way out of town in the country. I was brought up as an only child, since my brothers were much older and I was alone most of the time.
For a child alone, I was sometimes lonely, and I would stand near the highway and look, but the road was straight, and it seemed to lead off into nothingness. I could not see the end of it. I knew the road led to town and there were people there but I could not see them, and I wondered about them.
When we drove to town I would stare down the road and marvel as the closer we got to a turn in the road the more clear it became as we approached. I think it is the same on the road of life.
As we travel the road we cannot see what lies at the end, nor can we know what has entered the roadway behind us obstructing the view of our beginning. And so we travel on, as though all we have is the present. And indeed it is, for we cannot leap ahead to the end, nor can we return from whence we came. It is only by faith that we know who and what lies at the end of our road.
Thank God we have a road map and we know The Way to the end!
