There's a lot of this in the air, so to speak

University of Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins tested positive for the coronavirus on Friday, according to a letter to students.

The president sent a letter on Monday to the campus community, apologizing for not wearing a mask and social distancing during Judge Amy Coney Barrett's Supreme Court Justice nomination ceremony at the White House.

---

GOP Sen. Mike Lee tests positive for coronavirus

"Unlike the test I took just a few days ago while visiting the White House, yesterday's test came back positive. On advice of the Senate attending physician, I will remain isolated for the next 10 days," Lee said in a statement.

So possible she ( or rather a member of her family) rather than Hope Hicks was the original source.
Or Trump. He's the one going to all those rallies.

It's a virus, it spreads like a virus, exponentially, whenever it can.

Any number of a thousand things could have gone wrong, especially since asymptomatic spread happens with this virus. We might figure it out after looking into it for posterity someday.

Right now it's going to be hard to know the answer so we can't really rule much out.

Former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said Friday night that she has tested positive for coronavirus, the latest major political figure to say they have Covid-19 after attending a Rose Garden event last Saturday where President Donald Trump announced his Supreme Court pick.

Now that his SCOTUS nomination is a superspreader event, maybe they'll rethink things. Nah.

(ETA: I was half-joking about the superspreader thing, but now it looks like maybe it's no joke at all.)

Wow. I keep saying "Wow" out loud. Either this is an elaborate farce promulgated on the American people, or we are watching the chickens come home to roost. Lord have mercy.

Edit: I forgot. It's 2020. It could be both. :(

Bill Stepien, the current Trump campaign manager. And Senator Tillis.

By early Saturday, former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway and the President's campaign manager Bill Stepien had both tested positive, which followed the positive diagnoses of two US senators who had attended Trump's Supreme Court nomination announcement last weekend, and Trump senior adviser Hope Hicks on Thursday. A third Republican US senator, who did not attend the nomination event, announced a positive diagnosis later Saturday morning.

Shortly before midnight, the President's physician, Navy Cmdr. Dr. Sean Conley finally gave an update on the President's condition, saying in a memo that the President is "doing very well" and has not required any supplemental oxygen, but that doctors have initiated the antiviral drug remdesivir, which has been shown to shorten recovery time for some coronavirus patients.

There are increasingly troubling signs from the White House events last Saturday when Trump and the first lady hosted a sizable crowd in the Rose Garden as the President announced the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Guests did not socially distance and very few wore masks. At least seven people, including the President and first lady, have tested positive. University of Notre Dame President the Rev. John Jenkins, Conway and Republican Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Thom Tillis of North Carolina, who were seated relatively close to each other, tested positive.

SCOTUS nomination event, with positive people highlighted:

Chris Christie...

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who helped President Donald Trump prepare for the first presidential debate earlier this week, has tested positive for Covid-19, he announced on Twitter Saturday.

"I just received word that I am positive for COVID-19," Christie wrote. "I want to thank all of my friends and colleagues who have reached out to ask how I was feeling in the last day or two. I will be receiving medical attention today and will keep the necessary folks apprised of my condition."
Christie was among a group of senior Trump campaign staffers who were tested Friday following news of the President's positive diagnosis.

A mild version of “doublethink” yes.

Not really. I'm pretty sure the chickens have come home to roost. Not gloating, just observing.

No, I understand.
But if people think that “maybe Trump et. al. don’t really have the COVID and this is all a ruse”, take good care because allowing yourself to think along those lines can “do things” to you that you’re probably going to be unaware of.
[I am using a generic “you”, not accusing anyone of anything]

I cannot put it passed this man to try such a thing, but I still need to value him as a “reasonable” human being, otherwise my humanity is likely to suffer and therefore must conclude that he does have a case.

If Trump is really faking it, this is a campaign that is literally out of ideas. I’d put “me and a dozen of my associates fake a deadly illness for sympathy” below “say the election is rigged” in running out of options.

One of the White House aides who works closest to President Donald Trump has tested positive for coronavirus, a White House official confirmed to CNN.

Nicholas Luna, an assistant to the President, acts as one of his "body men," whose job is to accompany the President throughout the day and night, putting him in close proximity to Trump, who announced early Friday morning he and first lady Melania Trump had tested positive.

The duties of a body man range from handling a president's papers and speech texts to being ready with everything from briefing books to pens for autographs.

Senator Rick Scott probably doesn't have COVID-19. 'Positive is good, right?'

U.S. Sen. Rick Scott said he misspoke Saturday when he said on national television that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

The Republican from Florida tweeted: “I misspoke this morning in my @FoxNews interview. I was tested yesterday for COVID and tested NEGATIVE."

We all know this virus spreads. But it feels like everyone is thinking all of this is a HUGE deal. Like everyone who gets it will die or suffer horribly. The truth is far from this.

Remember folks that only a small percentage of people who get it die from it. And it's pretty much age related AND with people who are already compromised with other types of illnesses or poor physical conditions. If you are healthy or younger than your mid to late 70s you are not going to die and there is a good chance you won't suffer a whole lot.

Let's not act like this is a death sentence for all these people.

Greg Laurie, the senior pastor of the Harvest Christian Fellowship with locations in Riverside and Irvine, California and Maui, Hawaii, has announced he has tested positive for COVID-19.

New York Magazine reporter Olivia Nuzzi tweeted that Laurie was at the Prayer March on the Mall with Vice President Mike Pence and evangelist Franklin Graham. He was also in attendance when President Trump announced Amy Coney Barrett as his Supreme Court nominee at the Rose Garden later that same day.
