((Hmmm...sorry for being gone for awhile. Been a crazy, crazy week. Cripes, let's see what I can do here...))
Brandon was dreaming, but it was lots of little things all jumbled together. He felt weak, like he was trying to wake up, but couldn't. Like he wanted to move his arms and legs, but they wouldn't listen to his brain. He couldn't differentiate between what he was dreaming and what was actually happening.
Fire everywhere.
Taka laughing in the pizza parlor.
More flames.
Boxing gloves inside the ring.
Little girl with flowers on her shirt.
Taka's eyes.
Men wearing black suits.
Fireballs bigger than his hands.
Taka's hand in his.
Brandon shivered suddenly, the cool washcloth falling off his forehead. Mrs. Carroni picked it up, rewet it, and tried to put it back on his forehead, but his eyes were beginning to blink open. She began talking to him, but her words sounded muffled and faraway, so he squeezed his eyes shut to try and clear his head.
"You are okay, yes?" Mrs. Carroni asked again, her voice on the edge of fear but remaining calm.
Brandon moved his hands a little to make sure he could feel them before replying, "Taka? Where's Taka?"
"She is gone with some men," Mrs. Carroni replied, "I do not know who they were."
Brandon tried to sit up as the lady's words sunk in to his still-groggy mind. As soon as he did though, he realized where he'd been tazed. A trained shot to the spine, somewhere below the base of his neck. He couldn't even find the muscle control to reach around and feel the area. Falling back on the pillow made of towels, he tried to reform his memories from his last few minutes of consciousness.
"I should call your house," Mrs. Carroni offered, "Give me your phone number."
"Taka..." Brandon said again, somehow waiting for her to show up next to Mrs. Carroni and ask him how he was doing. She didn't though, and the pizza lady's words finally sunk in deep enough that it registered as the bad situation it was.
Reaching down into one of his pant's pockets, he pulled out his cell. Holding it up for Mrs. Carroni, she took it as he told her to look under 'House' and call to see if anyone was there. Brandon squeezed his eyes shut again, fighting back tears. How could he let them take Taka? Kai trusted him with his little sister and now she could be dead. He'd probably be dead soon enough now too. He saw Taka's face again before he had gone unconscious, how scared she was.
Brandon heard Mrs. Carroni say something about how it was ringing as he tried to sit up again without opening his eyes.
