  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Opportunity, NASA’s record-setting Mars rover, is declared dead after 15 years

Opportunity’s historic mission, which uncovered signs of Mars’s watery past and transformed our understanding of the Red Planet, has finally come to an end after 15 years, NASA declared Wednesday.

Opportunity’s mission was planned to last just 90 days, but it worked for 5,000 Martian “sols” (which are about 39 minutes longer than an Earth day) and traversed more than 28 treacherous miles — two records for NASA.

I wouldn't be sad if I learned that a 75,000 year old human died.
:) I guess, but if you heard of one you could be forgiven for thinking that they were immortal.

This was xkcd's take on Spirit, but let's use it for Opportunity too...

While I dont usually engage in viewing inanimate object as living beings, I truly hope that mankind manages to go to mars someday, retrieve the rover and put it into a place of honor.

IMO it's already been put into a place of honor. :)

I just hope the Parker Solar probe lasts that long. :)

Actually, I don't think it will be brought back to Earth. I think when we make a Mars Colony it will have its own place of honor within the Colony.

My guess is we'll have a real bonafide self sustaining Mars Colony in the next 60-ish years give or take a Decade

They are two rovers, so one can stay and one can return.
