RIP, Gilligan

I just heard that Bob Denver (Gilligan) died. I'm really bummed - as a latchkey kid, he was a great babysitter in the afternoons when I got home from school. I just loved Gilligan's Island.

That's really too bad. Gilligan and the Brady's (along with Mr. Rogers and the Addams Family) were my babysitters after school in the 70's. Like the OP, I was a latchkey kid, too.

I remember looking forward to spending time with my "friends" each day after school. Gilligan, the Skipper, the Professor, Mary Ann & Ginger, and the Howells were my friends back in The Day, just like Ross, Joey, Chandler, Phoebe, Monica and Rachel are now (or, were until last season).

Me too. I think I've seen every Gilligan's Island ever made at least twice. Very sad.

He did a great job with the Maynard character on Dobie Gillis also. Very fine comedy actor. He will be missed.

I remember watching that after school as well. Its weird to think he was 70 because no one ever ages in syndication.

I used to watch Nick at Night. I watched and enjoyed this show. Does any one know if he was saved? I know he died in a baptist hospital.

I know that he has been busted for pot posession in the past, and he was a pretty vocal advocate for legalization. He also made no secret about the fact that he enjoyed a spliff every now and then. Not that being a fan of the doobie prevents one from being a Christian; just that I know of very few Christians who are into the stuff.

Also, I read his autobiography and he didn't mention anything about any religious beliefs. Scratch that; I have a vague memory of him saying that he was a nominal Catholic, at least through college. I think he even mentioned considering the priesthood. I'll have to go back to the library and look that up, though. Give me a day or two.

I just loved Gilligan and the whole cast. I used to watch the show all the time when I was younger. I always had to laugh at how many times they could have gotten off the Island. Good bye Little Buddy.

He was the show,silly as he was he usually was the one thing that made me laugh the most.Along with Thurston Howell.
