• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The following questions are given with the thought of stimulating the believer to SEARCH and SEE, and then to RIGHTLY DIVIDE.

1. Do you keep Israel's dietary laws (Leviticus 11)?

Or, do you obey Christ's later revelation through Paul in Colossians 2:16?

2. Do you keep Israel's Sabbaths (Exodus 16:29,30; 31:12,16,17)?

Or, do you obey Christ's later revelation through Paul in Colossians 2:16 (cf.. Galatians 4: 1 0,11; Romans 14:5)?

3. Do you keep Israel's Passover of Exodus 12:14?

Or, do you obey Christ's later revelation through Paul in Colossians 2:14, 20 (Also Ephesians 2:15)?

4. Do you obey Israel's commission of Mark 16:15-18?

A. Do you preach its gospel?

B. Do you have the following signs ?

(1) Do you cast out devils?

(2) Do you speak in new languages?

(3) Do you pick up serpents?

(4) Do you drink poison?

Or, do you go along with Christ's later revelation through Paul in Ephesians 3:1-9?

5. Do you obey consistently the words of Christ to Israel in Matthew 10:1, 5-13? If not, why not?

A. Do you cast out devils?

B. Do you heal all manner of sickness?

C. Do you "go NOT" to Gentiles?

D. Do you go only to the lost of Israel?

E. Do you cleanse lepers?

F Do you raise the dead?

G. Do you provide neither gold, silver, nor brass in your purses?

H. Do you provide no scrip (ie., wallet or leather pouch for food)?

I. Do you have only one coat, one pair of shoes?

Or, do you follow Christ's later revelation to Paul having to do with all blessings that are spiritual in the heavenlies in Christ (Ephesians 1:3), rather than the physical blessings so typical of Israel?

This short exercise will take no more than ten minutes, but you will have to actually OPEN your Bible and compare the two sets of instructions to SEE that they are indeed DIFFERENT. Then CHOOSE whether or not you will rightly divide and follow Gods LATEST instructions to YOU, or mistakenly follow instructions NOT GIVEN TO YOU AT ALL!

It is your choice.

Compare and contrast:

1)Paul wrote to Timothy that "ALL" scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, 2 Tim 3:16.

2)You would have us think only Paul was inspired and only his writings are profitable for doctrine.

Compare and contrast again:

1) Paul did not shun to declare ALL the counsel of God, which includes ALL NT books.

2) You would have us shun everything not written by Paul.

See above, all Scriptures, including those books not written by Paul, are profitable for doctrine. Without ALL scriptures, one cannot have a profitable doctrine, will not have full instruction in righteousness, will not be perfect (complete) and will not be throughly furnished unto all good works.

The great commission, Mt 28:19,20, Mk 16:15,16, Lk 24:46,47, Christ said was to be preached to all nations, including Jew and Gentile, and would last till the end of time. So I go along with Christ on this, not you. If one would actually study the context of Mk 16:14-20, he will find that these "signs" were given to the apsotles, not to the one being baptized.

Again, the miraculous signs were given to the apostles. The gospel of Christ was taken to the Jew first, also the Gentile, Rom 1:16. So the same one and only gospel of Christ went to both Jew and Gentile and Mk 16:16 is part of the gospel of Christ.

My turn:

Are you trying to create a difference between the Jew and Gentile where God put NO DIFFERENCE, Acts 15:9? Are you fighting against God about this NO DIFFERENCE between Jew and Gentile?

Are you trying to change the fact that Jew and Gentile would be saved in the same manner, Acts 15:11? That both were saved alike in Acts 2:38 (Jew) and Acts 10:47,48 (Gentile) by water baptism in the name of the Lord for remission of sins?

(Mark 16:17-18) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In My name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

These 2 verses are NOT just referring to the "apostles" but to ALL WHO BELIEVE!!! If any believe that these "signs" and "wonders" are still in effect today are either deceiving themselves or by man or Satan (the father of lies and deception).

Sometimes I think the only way that true believers (followers of Christ/members of His body) would be able to recognize each other would be to have a blinking neon light above our heads...LOL

First, let me respond to your second paragraph above. I do not believe that these 'signs' and 'wonders' exist today, they belonged to the apostles. The apostles had the ability to lay hands on another and pass a 'gift' to that person, but that person could not pass that 'gift' to another. So when the last apostle died, no one was left that could pass these 'gifts'. When the last person died that received a 'gift' from an apostle, then the miraculous signs and wonders ended. In 1 Cor 13, Paul speaks of these miraculous gifts being done away with, v8ff.

As far as Mark 16:11-20, these 'signs' belonged to the apostles. Two things to keep in mind in this context:

1) those with unbelief in this context were the apostles, Jesus upbraided them for their unbelief.

2) keep track that the plural pronouns "they" "them" and "their" in this context refer to the apostles. These plural pronouns do not refer to the pronoun 'he' in verse 16.

verse 11---Jesus has arisen and when some of the apostles were told they "believed not".

verses 12,13--Jesus appeared to two more and when they told the residue, "neither believed they them".

verse 14--Jesus appeared to the eleven and upbraided them (apostles) for their (apostles) unbelief, because they (apostles) believed not.

verse 15--Jesus gives the great commission to them(apostles).

verse 16--the pronoun 'he' in this verse refers to the future hearer of the apostle's preaching that will either a) believe and be baptized and be saved or b) believe not and be lost. Again, this pronoun 'he' is not related to the plural pronouns 'they' 'them' or 'their'.

verse 17--these signs shall follow them (apostles) that believe. In this context it was the apostles that believed not, Jesus had just upbraided them for their unbelief. The plural pronoun 'them' refers back to the plural pronoun 'them' in verse 15, the apostles. So the apostles that do believe, will be given these signs.

verse 18---"they"-plural pronoun referring to the apostles that believe.

verse 19--after the Lord had spoken to them (apostles), He was received up into heaven.

verse 20--and they (apostles) went forth preaching, the Lord working with them (apostles), confirming the word with signs. This verse shows the Lord was working with the apostles, that the apostles were given these 'signs'.

2 Cor 12:12 Paul referred to these signs as "signs of an apostle"

Acts 5:12 signs and wonders were done "by the hands of the apostles".

So these signs were given to the apostles. As I stated earlier, the apostles could lay their hands on another and give that person a 'sign', but that person could not pass it on to another person. In Acts 8:12, those in Samaria received the word, believed and were baptized. Verse 14, when this news reached Jerusalem, they sent two apostles, John and Peter, to Samaria, to lay hands on them, v17. So the apostles were the ones with the signs in Mk 16, not the one baptized.

Colossians 2:16 has nothing to do with the dietary laws. Your argument that because it says let no man judge you in meat or drink, without reading the context, primarily verse 14, which says the handwriting in ordinances, which was the law of moses, you know, the ones written by moses?

Thhe context of Colossians 2 was the argument between Jews and gentiles in eating food sacrificed to idols, and has nothing to do with the dietary laws.

Taking things out of context can really skewer the teachings of the bible, which is evident in the many denominations and churches all teaching different things and yet all claim they have the bible truth.

For example, when Peter had the dream of a pig and a voice told him to eat it, Peter said nay, i have never eaten anything unclean. Then the voice said...

Acts:10:15And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Then what does the preacher do? ENDS THE SERMON and says SEE THAT, Jesus said it is okay to eat pork and fat etc etc etc. Even if it gives you diseases and cancer and stuff.

BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE CONTEXT, it explains what the dream was about.... all you had to do is actually read the bible...

Acts 10:28And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Therefore, i hope you, the OP, reconsider and evaluate the BIBLE AS A WHOLE, and not justify your beliefs upone 1 bible text without putting in place its context, and seeing if it can live up to bible scrutiny.

I won't go through all your questions, but if its based on only what paul says, and with only 1 bible quote to back it up, i see no point in trying to reason with someone who believes only Paul's writings are authoritive, and as a previous poster said, ALL SCRIPTURE IS given by inspiration of God and is profitable for reproof. And since the NT didnt exist yet, he obviously refered to the OT.

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater ...

While some "over-bake" the "Paul only" message it has more than just a little merit.

Carefully consider the Apostle to this dispensation ... but yes you are correct ... I agree that the other scripture may not be to us ... or even for us ... it is important revelation of God's Will for those to who it was marching orders in their era. As such it is important for us to understand.

You seem to understand the concept of context ... which is often lost on those who purport to be "anti-dispensational".

To lose that distinction will see you attempting to keep the 613 Laws written in Leviticus to please God for a blessing ... And be looking to inherit a Kingdom based in the Middle East instead of Heaven.

well what saith teh scripture? Doesnt the new testament say that the handwriting in ordinances (moses law) was done away with? So those 613 laws don't apply to us. But then people include the Moral Law(10 commandments) as part of the handwriting in ordinances.

Didn't you know that the 2 tablets of stone was put within the ark, and moses law outside of it? That the two were seperate. But people will argue nuh uh Jesus gave us two new commandments, love thy neighbor and love God with all your heart.
Oh you ignorant ignorant man, don't you know that Jesus was quoting Deuteronomy and Leviticus? Jesus didn't come to earth to bring anything new, he came to bring the exact same thing the law and the prophets wrote, only that the Jews and its leaders was doing it all wrong.

If i were to preach in the many denominations and preached about adultery being a sin, i would get an amen.

If i were to preach about not stealing, i would get praise and hallellujahs.

If i went right down the list of all the requirements of the 10 commandments, but then i start to preach about the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH (Saturday), quickly they will scream, we are not under the law, we are under grace!!!

"In vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men"

nuh uh! In Acts they worshipped on the first day of the week therefore Sunday is the new sabbath for christians!

Oh you ignorant man, don't you know in the same book of Acts there are many instances where Paul as his custom was to preach EVERY SABBATH DAY? Why is it they call the first day of the week the first day of the week? BECAUSE THATS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS.

WHy do they call the sabbath the sabbath? because thats exactly what it is!!! Sunday = first day of week. Sabbath = Saturday.

nuh uh youdahman, we are under grace, we are not under the law!

"Romans 3:31Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law."

I hope some of you understand, that the law of God was never abolished, and that to love God and to be part of that final end time people, they must

Revelation 14:12 Keep the commandments of God AND have the faith of Jesus.

I'll submit to you that you will not find a single verse in the bible specifically stating the sanctity of sunday, and you know what? THe Holy See made that same challenge, and boastfully claim that they are the mother church of all denominations, because these apostate churches have followed her doctrines.

Anyways, we shall all be held accountable to God. In a time where we can freely practice or beliefs, where we can freely read the bible for ourselves, and make an informed decision, not like the days of the reign of the papacy. Never have we seen more biblically illiterate people when the bible is so openly available to us, and i hope that you are not one of those sheep who sits in church and listens to the pastor and think this is sufficient for salvation.

STUDY to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth 2 Timothy 2:15

By the way... if you are a follower of Christ, i hope you know that Christ kept the Seventh day sabbath.

I foresee posts that say, youdahman you're a legalist!

Fine, but just remember Revelation 14:12

12Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

God Bless.

well what saith teh scripture? Doesnt the new testament say that the handwriting in ordinances (moses law) was done away with? So those 613 laws don't apply to us. But then people include the Moral Law(10 commandments) as part of the handwriting in ordinances.
do you keep the Sabbath?

youdahman said:
Didn't you know that the 2 tablets of stone was put within the ark, and moses law outside of it? That the two were seperate. But people will argue nuh uh Jesus gave us two new commandments, love thy neighbor and love God with all your heart.

Oh you ignorant ignorant man, don't you know that Jesus was quoting Deuteronomy and Leviticus? Jesus didn't come to earth to bring anything new, he came to bring the exact same thing the law and the prophets wrote, only that the Jews and its leaders was doing it all wrong.
I believe the insults are unnecessary.

To say that Jesus brought nothing new is simply false.

And you don't understand why that is ... ?

youdahman said:
"In vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men"

nuh uh! In Acts they worshipped on the first day of the week therefore Sunday is the new sabbath for christians!

Oh you ignorant man, ...
That is enough. Converstation terminated.

PS ... to call Sunday a "new-sabbath" is most remarkable.

Sunday pastor: Yes revelation 14:12 is true, except hte commandment where it says Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy, becuase it does not agree with my beliefs. But all other 9 are correct.

But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

God gave 613 commandments to be written in the Scriptures. ...

Jam 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

First a word from Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum ...
It must be understood that the Mosaic Law is viewed in the Scriptures as a unit. The word, Torah or “Law,” is always singular when applied to the Law of Moses, although it contains 613 commandments. The same is true of the Greek word, Nomos, in the New Testament. The division of the Law of Moses into ceremonial, legal, and moral parts is convenient for the study of different types of commandments contained within it, but it is never divided this way by the Scriptures themselves. Neither is there any scriptural basis for separating the Ten Commandments from the whole 613 and making only the Ten perpetual. All 613 commandments are a single unit comprising the Law of Moses.

It is this principle of the unity of the Law of Moses that lies behind the idea of keeping the whole law in James 2:10. The Apostle’s point here is clearly that a person needs only to break one of the 613 commandments to be guilty of breaking all of the Law of Moses. And this can only be true if the Mosaic Law is a unit. If it were not, the guilt would lie only in the particular commandment violated and not in the whole Law. In other words, if one breaks a legal commandment, he is guilty of breaking the ceremonial and moral ones as well. The same is true of breaking a moral or ceremonial commandment.

To bring the point closer to home, a person under the Law of Moses who eats ham is guilty of breaking the Ten Commandments, although none of the Ten says anything about ham.

That is unless you believe that Moses was not inspired by God to write the Pentateuch at all ... hmmmm ...

Is it your opinion that these other 603 are "less" ... are these the ones refered to by your statement as "the commandments of men"?

What do you believe to be the purpose of the Laws of Moses?

Be polite. How one treats another reveals ones Christian I.Q.

The purpose of the law was NEVER to make a man righteous! It was to show man the foolishness of thinking that he could EVER attain a righteous standing with God based on OBEDIENCE to the law. Gods standard was 100%...NOT "do your best and I will make up for what you lack." If you missed ONE, you missed em ALL!

The law wasnt made for a righteous man! One who stands in Christs righteousness has NO NEED to measure himself by the standard of the law as he is DEAD TO IT.

This was a good thread...I'd like to see it continue.
