  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hm. The closest thing I can think of is an Irish accent, since a lot of people from Newfoundland are originally from Ireland. The accents here are very distinct, but also very diverse. The people from "the bay" speak differently from the "townies", and each town has slight differences. Since the towns here are spread reaaaally far apart and there's a lot of isolated outports, the accents are pretty distinct wherever you go.

YouTube - newfie accent

That's a fairly good example. My accent is definitely not as strong as his, but I have a few friends that have accents so thick I sometimes get lost listening to them! It's mostly the slang that makes it different. There's actually a Newfoundland Dictionary full of it!

Inn-teresting! Sounds like a mix between the standard Canuck and British. :p
Speaking of Newfoundland towns, I went to a lecture on Saturday night, and one of the speakers talked about ghost towns. One of the places he'd gone was one of the last remaining isolated Newfoundland towns. It was down to 15 people, and the closest town with any kind of services was a 3 hour ferry ride away. Oddly, some of the people who lived there were in their 60s and had never seen cars "in person" before.

As for other provinces, how'd you like Quebec?

I've been to a couple places like that! I went to one town where you couldn't get there by car, you had to take a ferry, it was completely cut off from the rest of the island.
Ever since resettlement, there's a lot of little towns that slowly dissapeared. I always found it cool how some of the would take their houses with them when they resettled!

I had a pretty great weekend! I couldn't put on shoes over my new tattoo so I was stuck in the house, but it was pretty great. Me and my friend got our tattoos and had a movie night, and my best friend who lives a few hours away visited for the night. Plus, we got a new hamster!

Sweet! Glad to hear that your weekend went well.

What's the longest hike that you've ever made?

Very interesting! I didn't know people took their houses with them during resettlement. Understandable, though.
I've only heard good things about Quebec City (a couple of college friends honeymooned there); it's one of those must-see places! If you ever get the chance, you must see Montreal. Lots of culture - and Frenchness - lots to see, and just a great atmosphere overall.
What did you do as a biathlon director?

I did :)

I've only fished a few times before! I think it's because I find worms icky :p
I've went a few times with my dad, I'd love to go fishing for Cod sometime though. I think it's be awesome to catch a fish, cook it up on a fire and make a meal out of it! I think I'll definitely try that next time I go camping

Haha, you should definitely try that. It will be some of the best fish that you've ever ate. :D. Btw, didn't mean to make that statement about your dad a question. Don't know why I did that.

Do you have any weird or odd collections?

Oh boy, this could get humiliating haha.
I have loads.

My biggest one is probably the 101 dalmation toys that came in Mcdonalds Happy Meals yeeeears ago. And no, I only ate a few happy meals to get them haha, the rest came from years of searching at thrift stores and yard sales. I have 98 of the original 101, and around 75 of the next set of 102. Including all the duplicates I have, I probably have almost 300 of them. I refuse to finish them by buying the missing ones from ebay, it's much more fun to go around yard sales and thrift stores with my mom and find them under piles of old toys

Those were very popular among my friends in 3rd grade. :D

Haha, awesome! . I have a quarter collection as well. Some of them date back to the mid 1800's.

Did you have a good weekend?

It was alright, but way too much studying and not enough sleep! I had a behavioral pharmacology midterm today and an english passage analysis that I was really freaked out about, so I spent most of the weekend studying :(
