  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Dan,

I pray that you do not leave the Lutheran church altogether. I understand your recent disdain with the ELCA and I think that the thread we were in a couple of months ago regarding the LCMS may have soured you on that as well. I hope not too soured because though I disagree with the synod leadership doesn't mean that I think the LCMS is totally heterodox. If I did I wouldn't be planning the move I am making to attend the seminary in Fort Wayne.

I hope that this for you is just a phase and that you elect to stay and become part of the LCMS or ELS. We need people like yourself to help keep the rest of the people understand the Lutheran Confessions better. So please be slow in making whatever decision regarding leaving the Lutheran Church.

Seeing Lotar and then Dixie depart for the Bosphorous was difficult and I don't want to see any more defections. While I love them both as fellow Brothers and sisters in Christ, I can't help but feel they have made a mistake.

I have found a local Evangelical Catholic / Orthodox Lutheran congregation only about a half-hour away. I visited them this morning, and the greeting was extremely warm. This is an extremely conservative, liturgical congregation, and one of the most open and diverse I have seen, anywhere.

The pastor and I talked for quite a while. The pastor and the congregation is dedicated to following Scripture and the Confessions. I do not know if my journey will lead me to the Orthodox Church, or kep me in the Lutheran Church, but I feel as if a heavy weight has been lifted from my shoulders!

May I ask if there was any synodical affiliation with this church? Did you take your wife? IF so what were her thoughts on the church?

If you wish to answer me in a PM feel free to do so.

It was LCMS.

My wife and 12 y/o daughter went to the ELCA church. The thing with my wife is that church is more of a cultural thing than a confessioal thing. She was born into the ELCA church (ALC at the time, I think), and she has no desire to leave.

My 9 y/o daughter came along with me, she absolutely loved it. The church is Redeemer Lutheran Church in Gresham, Oregon. They don't have a website yet... Maybe that'll change now. ;)

BTW: I found them through the Evangelical-Lutheran Liturgical Congregations directory. Great resource!

Children are pliable. They will enjoy anything especially if they can bond with Dad. I have a 9-year old daughter and she likes to have special time with her Dad as well. You may be in for a battle with your wife unless you are content to go to separate churches from now on. My wife finally caved in this last year because she wanted us to go to the same church. That and my desire to go to seminary did her in.

I am glad for you Dan. I certainly hope that you find what you are looking for and I still hope that is in the Lutheran Church. I think the LCMS is still a pretty good Orthodox synod and despite the few political problems there are many good churches in the synod that still practice what the doctrine teaches.

The other good thing is that the Seminaries are putting forth good Orthodox men ready for a calling. This may be the force that changes the tide in the LCMS.

God Bless
Scott
