Shabbat Shalom, Beloved!
Would my Messianic Brethren please talk to me about Rick Joyner, share your thoughts on him and his... uh... ministries? I have to say when I read the other thread's opening article noting Rick Joyner's involvement, my eyes popped out.
As a person whom G-d has always (throughout my life) used in the prophetic... I personally have been tried and tested, and over the years I have come to believe that there are not modern-day "Prophets" to the entire body of believers, in the Biblical sense (though I am open to the thought that in the last day's, HaShem may again choose to bring someone forward in such a position, but I will still be very scrutinous...). And I believe that the major ministry of a prophetic is to tell forth the Word and bring people back to the basics of faith and obedience...
I do believe G-d works in individuals in a prophetic manner, some more than others and often in very personal ways... but I also have seen such trouble come from prideful "Prophets" (so considered and labelled by the members) of many churches. I know with every cell in my body that prophetically gifted people are the most extremely dangerous people in the body if they are not completely humble, sufficiently mature and truly submitted to some serious and capable authority... I don't believe any other of the "giftings" of the Spirit can be abused nearly so easily, nor anyone so powerful and able to truly spiritually destroy people, as a prophetic who is not truly submitted to any right-there, hands-on, in-your-life authority placed over him by G-d.
SO... those of you who are more familiar with Joyner, speak up please. Is this man trustworthy? Is he submitted to a larger group of persons, taking the place of a servant rather than a head-person etc.? How is his ministry seen by others in MJ and how does it factor into MJ as part of the leadership, if any of you can tell me? My understanding of Joyner was that there was some church-splitting he was involved in somewhere along the lines, and what-not, which rings many warning bells for me. I didn't know he was involved in Messianic Judaism much less it's leadership (?????).
We spent a number of years growing and being very tested and creamed in "charismatic" churches (and eventually healed and matured and drawn onward by HaShem). We were certainly exposed to much "prophecy", including the big movements with Joyner's books (I haven't read the more recent). So let me say again... it isn't that I don't think G-d works through people prophetically. I would be a fool not to believe it, as He does so routinely to me and I have always submitted my words and dreams to whatever pastoral authority I am under if they appear to me to be for the church body (a few have, a few were for the pastors/leadership themselves, most are for me and my family, which is as it should be, since this is my proper main ministry... and I submit these to my TL).
Any insights?
Feel free to PM me if you would rather not post here. TIA!
