Robert F. Kennedy Jr. launched an independent bid for the presidency on Monday, dropping his Democratic primary challenge to President Biden in a speech that called on voters to “reclaim” their country from major parties that he said have war-mongered, abandoned unity and fallen short on issues such as health care, the environment and housing.

Mr. Kennedy took aim at extreme factions who are “getting us to hate each other,” saying corrupt leaders have rigged the system in their favor while seniors, veterans, farmers and others are left behind.

“The most hateful voices of course are always the loudest but there are a lot of quiet Americans who are looking with disgust at the vitriol, the name-calling and the venom,” he told a cheering crowd in Philadelphia. “They want it to end. They want us to get along.”

From a strategy standpoint, you can't blame him.

It was pretty clear they weren't going to allow him to debate Biden (which would've been his primary strength) or give him the time of day.

His vocal condition aside, RFK's strong suit is the gift of gab (even if you don't like him or agree with him, he's a good speaker). As my grandpa would say "he can talk the extremities off a bull" (it sounds more catchy when you can use the actual word lol)

As to where a typical current-era Biden rebuttal these days would be "c'mon....tereramanderadoohrmaherm Malarkey!" (followed by his campaign manager taking the mic, saying "we're not taking any other questions", and then pointing out to him which side of the stage the exit is on.

You could have a debate about whether or not it's okay to club baby seals, and Biden could be on the side of protecting the seals, and still find a way to lose.

2012 Biden was a good speaker and could hold his own (like he did against Paul Ryan)... The Biden we have isn't 2012 Biden.

Especially if he can't be silenced like Bernie or worse yet reduce the risk of silencing like JFK jr for daring to confront and be ahead of Hillary.
A voice is needed to remind people of how the corruption of the past is even more alive today.

Personal politics aside, Gavin Newsom should be furious right now.

Newsom is an establishment Democratic politician who's always "played ball" with the DNC, well spoken, good looking, can hold his own in a debate (if his debating Hannity in "hostile territory" was any indicator), willing to toe the party line, etc... He's basically a gift wrapped "Defeater of Trump" for the DNC.

My personal opinion? If the Democrats run Newsom against Trump, the Democrats win (since that's not a debate that Trump can dodge)

And they're making him take a back seat and "wait his turn" until 2028. That's gotta be insulting.

(again, not saying I like Gavin's policies, he has several I disagree with...but he's certainly a better candidate than Biden by in a strictly political strategy sense)

If I were Newsom, I'd go rogue and primary Biden lol. The establishment media wouldn't be able to use the same "this is why you shouldn't like him" talking points that they use against RFK. It'd be interesting/entertaining to watch MSNBC try to find a way to explain why Newsom is "too far left" without alienating their viewers and taking a ding on ratings.

Here's a yeah but. Kennedy knows full well the D's are no longer the party of old and represents Corporatism. He stands a better chance to be heard outside the veil and appeal to old school Dems who basically gave up when this crowd came along.. A majority of boomers may be dead but what is left still knows truth when they hear it. That was their gift in youth.

Republicans turn on Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as he launches independent bid

Steven Cheung, a spokesman for former president Donald Trump’s campaign, echoed the condemnation [from other GOP leaders]. “Voters should not be deceived by anyone who pretends to have conservative values,” Cheung said in a statement. An “RFK candidacy is nothing more than a vanity project for a liberal Kennedy to cash in on his family’s name.”

Kennedy’s invitation to speak at an upcoming Nevada meeting of the Conservative Political Action Committee has also caused frustration within Republican leadership circles, who do not want to elevate his message.
“We have to attack him,” said a Republican familiar with the party’s strategy, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private deliberations. “He would hurt the eventual nominee.”

The attacks came as Democrats remained largely silent on Kennedy’s shift, reflecting a relative optimism among the party’s top strategists that Kennedy poses little threat to Biden as an independent candidate. Kennedy’s polling in the Democratic nomination fight had fallen in recent months, and current national polling shows higher approval ratings for Kennedy among Republican voters than Democratic voters.

Four of his siblings released a statement Monday denouncing his independent bid as “dangerous for the country.”

“Bobby might share the same name as our father, but he does not share the same values, vision or judgment,” wrote Rory Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, Joseph P. Kennedy II and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend. “Today’s announcement is deeply saddening for us.”

Kennedy joins the liberal academic Cornel West as the second major declared independent candidate. [possibly also a No Labels candidate will appear.] Neither has yet made significant progress in qualifying for state ballots

Oddly enough, their father's values didn't line up with the Modern day democratic party either.

On certain issues, Jr. is probably closer to the modern day democrats than Sr. was.

Sr. was no friend of unions or organized labor, and attempted to tie them to socialism/communism in senate hearings if memory serves.

He seems to be heading on the crazy part of the right side for awhile. And I'm not talking about him just being Republican. He's pretty brainwashed in some of his thinking. He does have some Democrats ideas. But I don't vote for crazy.

Good for him. Too bad DSA'ers have been brainwashed to accept only two parties. Probably because the don't have the ability to bully more than one at a time.
What's a DSA'er?

Good for him! The Democratic party isn't the same like it was decades ago. (neither is either party)
That is why the latest batch of politicians would have a fit if it came down to Trump and Kennedy, two old school politicos stirring the pot and reminding us of what the cancel culture wants us to forget. On Kennedy's part for instance... that integration was achieved and people were judged on merit rather than that reversal we see today with folks demanding self entitlement due to racial or pronoun 'identity'.

Republicans turn on Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as he launches independent bid

Steven Cheung, a spokesman for former president Donald Trump’s campaign, echoed the condemnation [from other GOP leaders].

Trump Lays Into RFK Jr. by Claiming ‘He’s Not Really an Anti-Vaxxer’

“RFK Jr. is a Democrat plant,” Trump said on Thursday in a video posted on Truth Social.

“So, Republicans, get it out of your mind that you’re going to vote for this guy because he’s conservative,” the former president said. “He’s not. And by the way, he said the other night that vaccines are fine. He said it on a show, a television show, that vaccines are fine. He’s all for them. And that’s what he said. And for those of you that want to vote because you think he’s an anti-vaxxer, he’s not really an anti-vaxxer.”
