  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Prayer Brings Revival

James Duncan, preaching with great unction and power, was asked what was the secret of such powerful preaching. "The secret," he said, was "thirteen hours of consecutive prayer."

When asked the secret of his spiritual power, Charles Spurgeon said: "Knee work! Knee work!"

Livingston of Shotts, on two different occasions, preached with such power that in each service 500 were converted. Both sermons were preceded by a night of prayer.

Charles Finney, after spending a day in the woods in prayer and fasting, preached that night to a phenomenally irreligious congregation. The sermon was accompanied by such divine power that the whole congregation, except one man, fell prostrate upon the floor, and voiced their agony under conviction of sin, in such loud outcries that the preacher was forced to stop.

Of "Uncle" John Vassar, the Tract Society colporteur, his pastor said: "He absolutely prayed day and night-prayed about everything, prayed for almost everything, prayed with almost everybody he met. "He prayed when he went out and when he came in. He prayed before every religious service, and then prayed all the way through it. I have occupied the same room with him night after night and rarely went to sleep without hearing him in prayer, or awoke without finding him in prayer."

These great men of God, so focused on God and doing His work devoted their entire lives to spreading the Gospel. Most of the men you know, but all the time they were asked for the source of their power for delivering "heart wrenching" sermons. What was their reply? PRAYER! are you praying enough? Am I? I think these men challenge us to take a bold step of Faith, on to the uncharted land called "Trust"

Make the commitment today.

In Christ,
Matt

CABL,

Be sure to look up George Muller, a great man of prayer. He would pray with the Bible, using the Bible as a prayer book. Look him up. he was contemporary with Spurgeon, and ( I think ) Hudson Taylor. His orphanages are still with us.

I read a booklet by Watchman Nee " Deep Calls Unto Deep," in it he said that in order to touch the depth of other persons, we need to have depth in our relationship with the Lord. Roots going down, below the surface, what people can't see.

I will take your challenge to commit to pray.

Prayer doesnt come easy and it may take many years for you to develop a genuine abiltiy to spend many hours with God. But I encourage you, start off with small chuncks of time and the Lord will train you up to greater lenghts. The things about prayer is that, you must be enjoying the Lords presensce or else it will be a mechanical affaire. Prayer is one of my ministries and the Lord expects me to spend hours before Him, but they are a mere minutes in feeling of length of time, because He has trained me up.
The blessing are GREAT for PRAYING and WORSHIPPING. Prayer is the greatest most powerful thibg you can do, apart from Worship (only giving not asking)
John :p)

Prayer doesn't have to always be something long and belabored. God wants us our prayers to Him to be natural, as natural as breathing.

I know I've not fully developed the skill of hours before the Lord in prayer and fellowship, but I do keep Him in my mind near always and as I go about life, whether it be looking for greeting cards or riding my bike, I praise and thank Him as I go about my daily life and I send up prayers for others as I go about daily life. With every breath I want God to know my heart.

We all as God's children should leave a legacy of prayer and worship of Him.

My prayerlife was revived when I became aqcuainted with the Wreath of Christ - a rosary of Frälsarkransen from Sweden. I realized that prayer is more than the words, it can be simply quiet being in front of God with empty hands and open mind, just being and listening.

Martin Lönnebo, swedish emeritusbishop "the father" of the Wreath of Christ tells how he prays when he is walking - every step is a prayer "all my words and thouhgts, let them please you Jesus" or how he can stay silent with the bead of Silence for half an hour and meditate one prayer of the Lords prayer...

The prayer is invisibe work and it should be in near connection with the visible work - do the things you are praying e.g. bless my neighbours => do things that make them happy etc...

Just having the beads of prayer with me reminds me all what is important - as praying is.

AMEN! My deep heartfelt prayer, at the moment, is that my years, are not spent in futility. That I live every minute of my life, being focused on the Almighty and bearing fruits. and that i fulfil my prophetic destiny.

great OP. I love to pray- I find that I have a much greater capacity to pray in the spirit for hours than with understanding (more like 20mins 1/2 hour). With my mind I tend to get overwhelmed with knowing that there are so many people I need to pray for without knowing what exactly I should be praying so I let my spirit do the talking.

With my mind I love to praise God I could tell him I love him for hours and quitely sit in his presence murmuring sweet nothings! Those are my 'conversation times' apart from those i love to chat to Him all through the day.

But I also feel that amongst Christians there is a bit of stigma attached to praying for everything. I have a tendancy to ask the Lord his opinion on Everything and some people look at me like I'm a bit weird. I just so much want to do His will. I wouldnt take a single step in life if i wasn;t sure i Was walking in His shadow.

Yours in Christ

Good thread and a great challenge! I also agree that we have to enjoy our time with Him or it becomes a mechanical act, born out of legalism. If we pray for that passion we should be aware of what we are asking for. The way I become hungry for Him is by running out my own resources and having to come to Him. After a while after meeting me at the point of my need, He asks me to seek what He wants and cares about and what He wants to do in my life and in the world. As I begin to experience this in my daily life, then, I am even more eager to spend some time with Him. God bless!
