Revelation 22:11

NKJV
He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still."

NIV
Let him who does wrong continue to do wrong; let him who is vile continue to be vile; let him who does right continue to do right; and let him who is holy continue to be holy."

RSV
Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy."

DBY
Let him that does unrighteously do unrighteously still; and let the filthy make himself filthy still; and let him that is righteous practise righteousness still; and he that is holy, let him be sanctified still.

YLT
he who is unrighteous -- let him be unrighteous still, and he who is filthy -- let him be filthy still, and he who is righteous -- let him be declared righteous still, and he who is sanctified -- let him be sanctified still:

What do we say about these 2 groups of people? According to the text, what makes the difference?

Hi there!

The tense of the verb makes the difference. At this time of the text, the door to Christ is closed. The verb tense is first aortic active imperative. That means the action is completed in the past, and being imperative, there is no first person in the imperative, the second person is translated as a "command" and the the third person is translates as "Let him...."

When the door is closed to Christ, the person who was (action completed in the past) unjust, unrighteous, and filthy will be (commanded or allowed, "let him be) sealed for eternity as unjust, unrighteous, and filthy.

In a nutshell, there is no second chance at salvation.

Er...the first is unrighteous, the next is righteous.....

If it's not so early in the morning, the question is, what makes one righteous?

Christ.

Am I correct or have I failed utterly?
Some churchgoers think that God has declared them righteous at some time in their past, and that the current state and standing of their lives cannot become unrighteous through the free will choices that they make today. This belief may lead them to... "continue to do wrong" (NIV).
