Revelation 10

I asked this in another thread, but unfortunately Dave had to close it before anyone could answer me.

I totally "got" most of the symbology in Revelation, but I'm still perplexed about Revelation 10.

What was the symbology of John eating the book? Why did it taste good but turn bitter in his stomach?

I kept looking for an explanation of this and went back to Daniel, etc. The answer might've been right in front of me, but if it was I spaced it.

Anybody have any insight?

God bless,
~Lainie

I have copies of the revival but haven't gotten to watch them all yet. Do you know which night he discussed Rev 10?

I do not know which one but this is the general thrust of what he said and also what one of our previous ministers also said to us.

The book is sweet as it is taken into the mouth and then it is bitter in the stomach.

We need to remember that much of Revelation is symbolic but it was written to the seven churches who were real at that time. They were churches that had didffrent problems.

Now this text seems to be more inclined as to a ceratin period of time in the history of the Christian Church.

It is in the future from John's time, we cannot look back and apply it to an event in history before John's time.

In relationship to the rest of the chapter we see that this time period takes place towards the end of time.

The book here is the Word of God, the Bible.

I believe it be the time when the Christian Church taught that Christ was going to come back. It was music to their ears, it was sweet in their mouth.

But we know that Christ did not come back. October 22, 1844 came and went.

It then became bitter in their stomach. We know it as the "great dissappointment"

Sweet in their mouth, the Second Coming. Bitter in their stomah, the great dissappoinment.

If I have not explained this as well as I clear as I should please ask.

No, you did a great job of explaining it.

I can agree to the symbology, but maybe instead of the bitterness being the great disappointment, couldn't it possibly be the bitterness of people finding out the TRUTH of Christ returning? What I mean is, some people insist that their dead loved ones are in heaven right now. What they don't realize is John 14 shows us the promise....Christ says He will COME AGAIN to receive the righteous into heaven.

They are basically implying that Jesus has made thousands or even millions of "mini-second comings".

I imagine when the truth hits some they will be very disappointed or even angry.

Just an idea I thought I'd throw out there.

In reality that is what they were disappointed in.
