  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi forum,

I would like to see summaries of what people say these verses mean. Just a quick summary in your own words.

Rev 2
24Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan's socalled deep secrets (I will not impose any other burden on you): 25Only hold on to what you have until I come. 26To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations– 27‘He will rule them with an iron scepter;
he will dash them to pieces like pottery’– just as I have received authority from my Father. 28I will also give him the morning star. 29He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches

quick, and my own words.

My take is that this word is for the overcomers in this degraded church that is filled with deep Satanic secrets. These overcommers will be co-kings with Christ during the Millenium and enjoy Him as the Morning Star. The Lord's speaking here , the "I", is the Spirit's speaking. To take heed to His speaking is do do His will to the end. We need to have an ear and hear His speaking in this, and all the seven messages to the seven churches.

For me this includes enjoying Him first thing in the morning (and continuing the rest of the day) as the wonderful life-giving speaking Spirit. I Cor 15:45

vs24-25 the secrets of satan are false teachings, we need to hold on tightly to our christian faith and view with caution anything that turns us away from the truth,

vs26-27 Jesus says that those who overcome and remain faithful till the end will rule over the enemy and reign with him as He judges evil.

vs28 Christ is called the morning star and a morning star appears just before dawn when the night is at it's coldest & darkest..... When the world is at it's coldest & darkest point Jesus will appear exposing evil with his light

vs29 All christians are the church the body of Christ we have ears let us listen to what the holy spirit is saying to us.

Hi forum,

What I was really curious about is what people would say about this line?

25Only hold on to what you have until I come.

This was written, apparently, to the angel of the Church of Thyatira in those days...it can't be for anybody in Thyatira now because there is no Thyatira.

forum etal,

It has been my experience that the book of Revelation, and in particular the seven letters to the seven churches, apply to my present enjoyment of the Lord. The first verse of Revelation says:
The revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave to Him to show to His slaves the things that must quickly take place; and He made it known by signs, sending it by His angel to His slave John,
Therefore we can say that this book reveals to us, like no other book, the wonderful person of the Lord Jesus. He has the seven stars, the seven searching burning eyes, He is the Lamb standing freshly slain. This wonderful person speaks by the Spirit to His chosen and redeemed people.

That said, with a view to contacting the Lord in His holy word, these seven epistles in Revelation can represent seven periods in the history of the church and can also represent types of churches that are with us today.

The verse you cited above may mean that the degraded church of Thyatira will remain until the Lord comes back.

Hi mythbuster,

The verse you cited above may mean that the degraded church of Thyatira will remain until the Lord comes back.

That's a lot of 'ifs' and 'maybes' but representing seven different periods of church history can be developed from the symbolism I would think.

To put it another way , I can see what you're saying.

In that understanding is it seen that the letters never physically went to the seven churches as may be taken by the angel the letter is addressed to.

Like there were seven churches named as the letters in the first century.

I believe that you are correct, not only so, but the seven epistles are for seeking christians today.

From the first chapter of Watchman Nee's The Orthodoxy OF The Church he writes:
In the Bible there are two groups of seven epistles. God used Paul to write the first group—Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and 1 and 2 Thessalonians—and God used John to write the second group. The first seven Epistles speak of the church in a time of normality; the latter speak of the churches in a time of abnormality. The three Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are normal, helping men to know God, but the Gospel of John is God's reaction to man's unclearness; that is why it frequently speaks of truth and grace. John's Epistles were also God's reaction to abnormality; that is why they speak of light and love more often. Revelation 2 and 3 are God's dealings with the abnormal conditions of the churches. The first seven Epistles of Paul deal with the normal behavior of the church. Later, the church was not normal; therefore, John wrote the last seven epistles in Revelation. The first seven Epistles contain the truth the church must know; the last seven epistles show the way the church must take. Today if a man really wants to walk in the Lord's way, he must read Revelation 2 and 3. Today the church has problems; therefore, Revelation tells us what to do. If you do not seek the way in Revelation, I do not know how you can be a Christian.
