So excited!!! But sad at the same time because once the extended version is out, there won't be anymore LOTR to look forward to :(
But... I'm still excited to see what gets put back in! I heard rumours about a lot of stuff between Legolas and Gimli, which is good, because for one thing that elf is really hot, and for another, those two are hilarious :)

I can't wait either! It'll be released right around finals week, but I'll hopefully be done with this semester by the time we get it. There's just too many scenes I'm looking forward to... Houses of Healing, Gandalf vs. the Witch King, the faceoff with Saruman and his death, the Mouth of Sauron, the drinking game (there's a clip from this scene on the theatrical release dvd in the National Geographic Special... wonder who wins?), Aragorn looking into the Palantir, more paths of the dead, more Sam and Frodo in Mordor, longer fight scenes, and tons more. I'm just too excited! December 14th is such a long wait...

I feel you. But there's still the Hobbit to look forward to once PJ is finished making King Kong.

PJ has said on several occasions that he wouldn't mind writing a movie for The Hobbit if he could get the resources and rights to do it after his remake of King Kong. If he gets what he asks for, then I agree with InnerPhyre that there probably will be a The Hobbit movie.

He will not however, make any movie on The Silmarillion. He has stated before that this book is so complex and more like a history that a movie would be very difficult (and here's a guy who pulled off Lord of the Rings magnificantly!). We'll all have to wait until the next generation or two's version of a Peter Jackson before we see this marvelous book made in film form.

I really don't see how the Silmarillion could ever be made into a movie. For one, there isn't very much dialogue in it. Also, you could pretty much make a single movie out of every single chapter of the book. You can't condense the entire War of Wrath into a half hour of film. Wouldn't work.

^_^ ^_^ The very mention of lotr makes me jumpy ^^

I would LOVE for Peter Jackson to make the Hobbit...*sigh*

But I agree that the Silmarillion would be near impossible to make...it was even the book that Tolkien took the longest to write (and he didnt even finish it, his son did after his death) so I wonder how long it would take for a director to put it on film and match the quality of the book...not to mention how many hours we would have to sit at the theater...hehe

The Silmarillion is just so complex...with so many stories...you could never make it into just one movie. If any director ever tried that...he or she would probably have to leave out a lot of parts...and then they'll have a mob at their heels :D

So yeah, I guess one could pull off just making a movie of, let's just say, "Beren and Luthien"...but then I would miss the forming of Middle Earth...the wars of Beleriand...Numenor and its Fall...*sigh* I <3 lotr

Yeah - that's one of the reasons why Dune failed so miserably as a movie. There is so much history and culture and religion rolled up into that book, there's no way it could all be given a proper handling in a two hour movie.

I've heard some mutterings that someone is thinking about re-attempting Dune, doing it in a two-part movie (ala Kill Bill Parts I & II). It's only mutterings for now, though.
