Joel 2:25 New King James Version (NKJV)
25 “So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten,
The crawling locust,
The consuming locust,
And the chewing locust,
My great army which I sent among you.

I'm sure many of you will be familiar with God's promise in Joel 2:25. This verse brings hope to those who know it and many make it their own.

However, I'm just wondering how far we are to go with making this promise our own and how, or if, we are to pursue it? Around 2002 I made a very poor financial decision, one which led me to lose tens of thousands of pounds. My life is a whole lot better now and I've seen improvements in my life. I'm not exactly in financial dire straits. However, I still have not yet recovered financially from that decision I made years ago.

I would like to bring Joel 2:25 to the Lord and seek some sort of recovery. But could this be construed as seeking wealth, which the Bible says not to do? Perhaps I should just forget about it and simply trust in God to meet my needs, according to Philippians 4:19 ? Or maybe I could even recall Proverbs 6:30-31 ?

Job lost everything and the Lord returned to him 2 x as much as he lost.

You can for sure claim at least a return of everything that was stolen from you, and more if you desire.

Research scripture with the Lord's leading and see what wonderful things HE shows you.

I'll look for some scriptures and post here later.

we know that God is good all the time and 3 John 2 says He wishes above all things that we prosper and be in health. That being said, we know those 2 things are His will. I can say that for us, we did not always do the right things financially either, but God is FULL of grace and is good to us even though we DO make mistakes. I don't see anything wrong with bringing those scriptures before the Lord as long as we seek Him first. Like Joyce Meyer says, " I'd rather believe for a lot and get some of it, than to believe for nothing and get all of it."

All the old testament promises & the blessings in them could certainly be claimed by knowing that they are already given to us only because God's Son has obeyed the Father (Rom 5: 19) and thus has created peace for us with the Father. The Father has granted all the promises for our claim only for us to live a Christ-centered life. So for total restoration trust only in the work of God's Son while rejecting the trust in human goodness & human good works. God created us only to accept blessings as free gifts and never to earn them through our goodness & good works. This is evident from the fact that God created man only after He had created all blessings (Matt 25: 34).

I believe this scripture is in reference to the Last Days.

Many would like to use this as a promise to acquire the restoration that the locust has eaten.
The crawling, consuming, chewing locust.
An army.

Many ignore the final line: Who sent this army of locust?

I'm uneasy about this post.

Locust army is a curse under law.
What verse(s) are you thinking of here? I would say the results of the locust appetite is the curse: the people lose their supply.

Those who trust in the moral or ceremonial law are under curse.
This is true.

Army pushes people to see the dire necessity of grace.
Joel 2:25 says that God sent the army. If this army's reason is to push someone toward grace, then God is using the curse to lead people to salvation. That's not a Word/Faith sentiment.

God's only use of such is in judgement. People will see grace in the event that they decide to walk away from the blessings of God and walk in the curse. When this results in the eating away of the favor in their life God's calling back to the blessing, back to His grace will become more and more evident to them, unless they decide to blind their own eyes to the grace and refuse the free gift.

The locusts speak of Gods plagues in Revelation. Its only escaped by observing Colossians 3. Its my opinion that we must not look for carnal, earthly restoration in things like money and land, but instead in spiritual things. (Gods spirit shall not always strive with man Genesis 6:3) We died and were raised with Christ and our life is hidden in Christ with God, in heaven, not earth. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8

Revelation 9:2 And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. 3 Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.5 And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. 6 In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.

7 The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns of something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. 8 They had hair like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth.9 And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle.10 They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months. 11 And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon.

Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”

Colossians 3:1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

God sent the army as a judgment becz people saw God as a judge & tried to earn blessings by works & not saw God as the Person who never sees wickedness or faults -num23:21 & blesses freely all for the sake of his Son.

Those who understand Christ's love will long to experience his love in this world and not haste to go to heaven.
Not sure I agree with what we would long for. Paul put it succinctly --

21 For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain. 22 Now if I am to go on living in the body, this will mean productive work for me, yet I don’t know which I prefer: 23 I feel torn between the two, because I have a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far, 24 but it is more vital for your sake that I remain in the body.

There is no doubt in Paul's writing that going to heaven and being with Christ is far better. Staying here is for the people you share the gospel with.

Some People long to enter heaven becz though they know his love they do not desire to utilise the liberty that comes from knowing his love by which he set us free from ml. They fear being opposed by those who trust firmly in ml.

People who want to die because they don't want to face the critics of their faith?? Really?

God does not give the spirit of fear (2 Tim 1:7). If you have fear working in your life it didn't come from God. What God did give us was a Spirit of power and love and self-control to take the Gospel to all who do not fully know it.

7 For God did not give us a Spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control. 8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me, a prisoner for his sake, but by God's power accept your share of suffering for the gospel.
2 Tim 1:7-8 (NET)

Now, if dealing with the critics is not your calling, then you do not have to go to the critics and preach. But going to the lost and sharing the Gospel message is certainly the calling of ALL OF US.

I can see a really big love of Jesus in your posts, Si monfaith. But I see a lot of philosophical bantering and conclusion that simply can't be backed up with scripture -- and in some cases walks contrary to things in scripture. You should be careful of that. Every conclusion that you write you should be able to defend WITH scripture (and be able to at least give a quick defense to those like me who ask for such defensed and for the critic who would come hard against you). God bless you!

God gave us his Son not just to proclaim the liberty from ml but also to enjoy total prosperity of liberty which He earned by destroying ml by his works & death. Whether to take the total prosperity & to what degree is the choice of each & every individual.

The point was not to be in fear of the critic. But...

God gave us his Son not just to proclaim the liberty from ml but also to enjoy total prosperity of liberty ...
Absolutely. Jesus' atoning sacrifice brings us prosperity -- which in Hebrew is shalom: it means peace, redeemed health, redeemed wealth, joy, restored relationships, well-being; nothing missing, nothing broken. In His sacrifice scripture tells us that He nullified the Law in our lives -- we are no longer under the Law but we are under the Grace of God.

which He earned by destroying ml by his works & death.
The Law was not destroyed. It still exists today. If anyone chooses to be under the Law they certainly can, but they must fulfill all of the Law in their own actions -- and this is impossible.

Jesus nullified the Law in our lives according to scripture.

Whether to take the total prosperity & to what degree is the choice of each & every individual.
This is absolutely true.

Some prefer heaven rather than enjoy the liberty in this world, earned by Jesus by rendering law dead by his death.
As i had stated in other threads, those who trust in ml along with Jesus will have to fulfil it & so might lose salvation.
