I think it indicates that God intends for his people to keep the Sabbath. Those who don't are considered disobedient. I believe that's what these verses say. I do not believe our salvation is based on this issue. There is a scripture that says we each must be sure in our own minds regarding the Sabbath. I have contemplated this topic for many years. I personally do NOT keep the Sabbath. Maybe I am disobedient. I guess I am not sure in my own mind.

"In all things love!"
Sincerely, Paul

If I may inject some observations for your consideration both to you and to the restorationists.

You listed some excellent passages showing Sabbath observance post resurrection. Luke was of academic background and understood research and recording observations. He was in the company of Paul - a man of a meticulous lawyers mind. If something written in by God in stone was to be edited they would both be on it and it could be expected to show up in such contexts.

Note that Jesus claimed lordship of the Sabbath (Mk 2:28). Of all the clauses of the Law this seems to be one He kept coming back to even at considerable risk to His ministry and taking death threats. It seems
to be important to Him. If He were to edit it He would have to do it BEFORE He died (Heb 9:16, 17).

Then there is this from Revelation 22:14: "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."

"God is love." We exist to be part of a web of relationships. Time is needed to nurture love. This is why God made the 7th day the pinnacle of creation and the punctuation mark of the week. He established a weekly "date" with His people and for His people among themselves. He jealous of that time.

Yes, you are right that we need to work out our understanding for ourselves. It is not my (or anyone else's) place to CONVINCE you. That is the work of the Spirit. But we ARE called to witness to our discoveries and endeavor to enhance each others faith and "to provoke unto love and to good works" Heb 10:24.

God bless as you continue to worry this bone for yourself and with others.

The early Jewish believers attended synagogue on Shabbat (Acts 15:21), as did Paul by preaching the coming of Messiah (Acts 17:2, Acts 18:4). On Shabbat, we hear of Lydia for the first time...meeting for prayer along the river with other women (Acts 16:13). The early church met on Shabbat, but probably more to tell the Jews that Messiah had come, for some of them were ready to receive it. On Sabbath, I personally rest, spend time with my family, and study the word of God. Look at the spirit of the law, not the letter of the law.

The closest congregation that offers Shabbat services is an hour away, so I fellowship on Sunday. I, however, fear a compartmentalization of faith by saying "you must worship on this day"...for I worship God every day. But, Shabbat, as it is intended, is for rest. Your "mind, body, and soul" need it.

I just stumbled upon this thread, and I must say that the manner in which this topic (a topic that can indeed cause strong emotion) has been discussed has been very wonderful, very Christian.

It was good to read and to hear the opinions of other Christians being discussed in such a pleasant way.
