  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Good evening all.

I wanted to share an important lesson that I learnt this week. I'm a committed bodybuilder who loves going to the gym and hammering my body to its limits. In the past few weeks I sustained a neck injury and simply necked painkillers before my next session. This lead me to no good results.

Once I had rested up for a week I got back into the gym and found that I was stronger than I had previously been, even though I had been at rest. My body had time to recover and so my muscles had rebuilt themselves to an even stronger point.

Isnt this the same with our spiritual lives?

Sometimes when we push forward for long periods of time it does wear us out. We could spend all of our waking hours at Church or doing some type of event. Yet once we rest, spiritually, we come back even stronger - even readier to take on Satan and all other obstacles we face in our spiritual lives. Look at how Jesus rested up after preaching and praying.

In the same way lets recall the story of Mary and Martha.

Luke 10:38-42
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" 41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

God Bless, metal.

Hiya Metal,

Great post! I can totally relate to what you have said about spiritual rest. In one of my ministries at church, I seem to be the one people asked to fill in for them - unfortunately I'm also the sort of person who can't say no . It has gotten to a stage that whenever I'm at church I seem to be doing something and as a result I avoid attending church when I'm not rostered on just so people don't have the chance to ask me to do something. I would love to have the chance to go to church - even if it's one Sunday a month - just to sit and worship and not worry about having to help in the service in any way. Basically what I'm saying is I do so much at church I feel spiritually tired. What I need is the chance to just sit and be spiritually fed.

Blessings

What a great post! It really hit home for me, because I can recall last year when I was attending a Disciple class, women's Bible study, Sunday School, and editing my church's newsletter, as well as assisting my pastor with various tasks. It was too much - I was running myself to the point of exhaustion, and not doing anyone any good, especially God! Again, great post - God bless!
