  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

On the 7th day God rested. How interesting is that?! It's like saying "I know when enough is enough". It gives us a good example to rest at times. In todays world we don't seem to do that. We are so ready to go to the next step in life and don't take time to wait and just enjoy the time you have. We always feel like we are in a race. But the race is won by the one who knows how to pace himself.

maybe one of the hardest things known to man...resting. We are such a rest-LESS bunch. Kinda like hyperactive, non-focused busy-bees.

Yet, God invites us to rest..to be STILL and KNOW that He is God. THat it is in QUIETNESS and confidence that our strength lies.

He calls the weary and the broken and the wounded and the torn and the defeated to Him to find solace and refreshment and rest.....

[bible]Matthew 11:28[/bible]

Come unto Me, Ye Weary
"Come unto me, ye weary, and I will give you rest."
O blessed voice of Jesus which comes to hearts oppressed!
It tells of benediction, of pardon, grace, and peace,
Of joy that hath no ending, of love which cannot cease.

"Come unto me, dear children, and I will give you light."
O loving voice of Jesus which comes to cheer the night!
Our hearts were filled with sadness, and we had lost our way;
But morning brings us gladness, and songs the break of day.

"Come unto me, ye fainting, and I will give you life."
O peaceful voice of Jesus which comes to end our strife!
The foe is stern and eager, the fight is fierce and long;
But Thou hast made us mighty, and stronger than the strong.

"And whomsoever cometh, I will not cast him out."
O patient love of Jesus which drives away our doubt;
Which calls us, very sinners, unworthy though we be
Of love so free and boundless, to come, dear Lord to Thee!

Thank you for this gorgeous song, so full of the truth of the gospel.

I love that Matthew 11:28 passage in the amplified, for it so clearly shows the "all" of the rest we are offered.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will [a]ease and relieve and [b]refresh [c]your souls.]

May we all come to Him today (and every day until we see Him face to face) to have our souls eased and relieved, so we can let His glory shine through us!

There let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience.
In the previous verse the Bible talks about us entering His rest as He entered His
Depending on the version verse 11 sometimes says WORK at rest
There is one thing we have to make sure we do and that is rest.
When we rest from us and our stuff of course He is more able! To work through us!!

We do get a good picture of the rest in the Lord in this chapter. Here it is (with a couple more) in the Amplified Bible:

9 So then, there is still awaiting a full and complete Sabbath-rest reserved for the [true] people of God;

10 For he who has once entered [God's] rest also has ceased from [the weariness and pain] of human labors, just as God rested from those labors peculiarly His own. 11 Let us therefore be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall or perish by the same kind of unbelief and disobedience [into which those in the wilderness fell].
I love the direction to be zealous and exert ourselves, striving diligently to enter that rest, in order that we be saved!

looksgood, your message is so clear and simple - and yet so many people lack the wisdom of the message. It seems futile to tell some this.

Thanks for reminding us of the importance of rest.

God Bless, metal.

And God bless you metal! But take heart, for it is NEVER futile to speak the Word of the Lord! All in His own timing we will mature in Christ!
