I explain how the Christian God thru His people and Christianity have produced almost everything good about Western Civilization.

tnt: That only shows that Christians can do good things. It doesn't reflect on the deeds of the god depicted in the Bible. Even the most evil god depiction can have followers that do good things.

No, it does reflect on His moral law since those Christians were acting on and inspired by His moral teachings.

ed: I would then ask them how their god has improved the world.

tnt: You can believe in a Diest god that neither hurt or helped the Earth. To them, that god would be more moral than one that hurt people.

Such a Deist god would not inspire many people to do good things, and especially the great things that have been accomplished in the founding of America. Most of the founders were Christians.

ed: Of course, if they hate Western Civilization then another method may be needed. Such as explaining how they can know God personally and thereby learn how good He is thru an actual relationship with Him.

tnt: And that tactic can be turned back on you. It's not helpful in identifying truth.

How and why not?

The majority of the founding fathers, did not believe in the miracles claimed by Christianity.

Yes, they did. 50 out of the 56 signers of the DOI and the Constitution considered themselves Christians. Only the few Unitarians and few Deists did not (IF they were deists, most of the so-called deists were actually Unitarians like Jefferson and Adams and later Franklin).
