For a contrary perspective, may I invoke George Carlin? I find his segment on the environment to be worth a quarterly review.

After all, it is clear that Earth has no objection to species becoming extinct. We also have no idea whether or not new species are emerging, because we don't know all the species that are here already. Do we imagine that we are Earth's last and best? Would the planet stop thriving without us? I can't imagine why it would. Or why it would be any less God's creation without us than it is now without the dinosaurs or the dodo.
Sometimes interesting facts come to light when you look a little closer. You are absolutely correct that the planet would not stop thriving without us. The fact that we were the last to arrive makes that point. The planet was already thriving when we arrived. This is the way DNA designed it. However, apart from another global catastrophe there is no chance that we will become extinct as a species. We may be sent back to our unevolved state but we will always be here. We shall not surely die.

I would like to draw attention to the fact that our wounds are all self-inflicted. This is important because while nature, our primary and only teacher, has many examples of healing it has no examples of how to heal such self-inflicted wounds. We cannot use the models we have observed in nature to correct this situation. They will not work because they are designed for wounds that are caused by others.

BFA,

Are faith and law mutually exclusive?

Joe

I'm not sure that "faith and law" is the topic of this thread, so I want to be careful not to derail us too much. To be brief, I would say that the law is not of faith and that, now that faith has come, we are no longer under the school master.

With respect to the topic of this thread, I sense that a person can be interested in "an inheritance in the new earth" while seeking to take care of the "old one."

It is good to be a steward of the earth.

It is better to be an heir of the earth.

Joe

A steward fulfills duty by obeying the laws of the earth. This will not give the steward an inheritance. The steward is paid wages. This is a good way to live but there is no end to this present evil age.

An heir of the earth receives the inheritance as a free gift through faith and this is a better way to live on the earth and it brings in everlasting righteousness and an end to this evil age.

Steward ship is good but incomplete.

Faith is better and brings in completeness.

Faith exists only in Jesus Christ and his family.

12 years ago, my wife and I had a home built. The process was really hard and we poured ourselves into it. Later, we had to sell it and move to a different location. Imagine our disappointment when we drove by the home years later and found it in utter disrepair.

Did God create the earth? Does He have any interest in the way it is maintained?

BFA,

The plain and simple testimonies of the spirit of Christ tell us what is ahead for the earth and its inhabitants.

The desire for a 1000 years of peace and prosperity is leading some to neglect the need for the salvation that our Lord began to teach and then he sent out the apostles to continue teaching his truth about the earth.

Joe, Jesus saved the world. He satisfied the need for salvation.
Senti,

He is the captain of our salvation. When he puts the image of the full armor of God on us, then under his command we follow him in the battle against the wicked one.

As babes, he freely forgives and justifies us and gives us peace with the Father. As young men he gives us a shield and a sword and and full body armor as he saves us from our sins and the snare of the wicked one.

He won the victory, that he might give us the shadow/image of his victory in living through his life. Thus, much more, we are saved by his life, having been reconciled to God by his death and justified and at peace with the Father by Jesus' blood.

The Bible also suggests that the wages of sin is death. Should the realization that I sin (and may one day die) lessen my desire to take care of my health while I am still alive?

Jesus Christ is the author and the finisher of my faith. I contribute nothing to my own salvation. Rather than wasting time trying to add to something that is already complete, I've found more useful endeavors. The great commission, for example.

BFA,

Amen and amen. For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Where does the great commission fit onto/into the vine and its branches?
