  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Could anyone recommend some resources on Dispy theology? Preferably not at the popular level, I'd like something a bit more in-depth. There are several varieties of this method and I'd like to learn more, from their perspective. And, no, I am not a dispy. I am only superficially familiar with dispensatioanlism, so anything should help. Thanks

I would recommend,

Renald Showers:

There Really Is a Difference!: A Comparison of Covenant and Dispensational Theology

still in print and reasonably priced (around $10). It is not advanced but does a good job of discussing the issues from a dispensationalist perspective. Very readabloe, IMO.

Thanks drstevej, I will take a look at that book. I have heard a few things about Showers' writing, such as he doesn't present opposing views very well and that his exegesis is lacking. I will, of course make up my own mind on these types of things.

Good call drsteve!

Let me also recommend:

Three Central Issues in Contemporary Dispensationalism (Darrel L. Bock, J. Lanier Burns, Elliott E. Johnson, Stanley D. Toussaint) Edited by Herbert W. Bateman IV - Foreword by Charles R. Swindoll

Progressive Dispensationalism (Craig A. Blaising, Darrel L. Bock)

Continuity and Discontinuity - Perspectives on the Relationship Between the Old and New Testaments (Essays collected in Honour of S. Lewis Johnson Jr.)

These will give you a very well informed viewpoint on dispensational theology in several aspects and areas. I fall into classic dispensationalism (even after reading all this stuff) but I like to know what else is out there and what the objections are. Good DEEP reading, I assure you.

Hmm, Chafer Theological Seminary? I thought that was Dallas. :D kidding

Thanks Tractor1, this looks like good reading, I really appreciate it.

And thanks BT. I'll be looking for those resources. I prefer using a knife and fork instead of a sippy straw.
