We, as a group, really need to stay out of the Creationist sub-forum, if we, as a group, cannot resist the temptation to offer 'corrections', 'information' or just flat out debate.

I do not believe such actions foster an atmosphere in the forum that allow for debate that focuses on the issues rather than the personalities.

We can still fellowship 'across the aisle' in the Kafeteria. Perhaps a self-imposed moratorium on posting in the Creationist sub-forum is in order.

And, if there is something in there that really gets in your gizzard, a quick cut&paste into the main forum oughta scratch the itch. There are many good examples of this working effectively.

Don't want to come across as nanny-ish; its just that I'd rather preserve fellowship than prove a point.

Will the YEC's show similar restraint here do you suppose?

Yes.

But regardless, our motivations of our actions ought not be based on their actions.

This isn't ***-for-tat.

If we model perfect restraint and absolute respect for the Creationist sub-forum and they show none of either for the TE sub-forum, we are called to not change our behaviour in light of theirs.

Our decisions need to be founded upon grace and not the proximate actions of those around us.

i for one, have never, nor ever intend to report a YECist for posting or arguing here. imho, the subforum for YECists is important, the only issue i have with it is that it ought to be by subscription only. that is password protected so i can't accidentally post there. i make it a policy never to enter into password protected forums, because i am afraid that i would unwittingly divulge a confidence disclosed there, but i do see a great need for them.

afaik, there really isn't a need for this forum, it really exists simply to balance the YECist one.

my problem is how i read the forums, i don't pay attention to the subforums until after i post, a short sightedness i am trying to change. however if it were password protected the software itself would perform this necessary function.

the other issue would be cut and paste out of the YECist forum into the general forum. as long as it is public readable it is fair game. password protect and it becomes a confidence that ought not to be reposted anywhere else.

i'll try to stop reading the YECist forum, but until i figure out a way to stop it from displaying via the control panel it will be a bit hard.

interesting idea.

there are many 'restricted' fora on CF, but anyone can view any of the posts, and thereby cut&paste into less restricted fora to make an argument.

Perhaps a good protocol if one wishes to argue a point from a sub-forum would be to pm the poster and ask permission before transferring a post to the open forum.

When the sub-fora were first created, I also did not see a need for a TE sub-forum, but I have changed my mind.
The open forum can get quite heavy with challenge and counter-challenge that can be frightening and unwelcoming to a new inquirer.

But I have seen a number of YECists come here with sincere questions about "just what is TE anyway? how do TEs manage to reconcile scripture and science?" followed by some very civil conversations.

So while I don't think TEs need a sub-forum for mutual support, I think it does serve a needed function for the edification of YECists willing to explore new ideas.

My first post in the TE Subbasement (Oops ;) , I meant subforum) :p

First of all this is a great idea, Chaos, I'm happy to see you folks trying to be proactive and self-policing. Wonderful!!!

I agree completely, I don't think taking a post out of the subforum without permission is proper at all. If it is a topic that is of that great of interest, start your own thread and use your own words to describe it.

Thanks for your time, please don't tell anyone I've been here, I'll be sneaking out back now...O.K.?

Thanks for starting this thread, CC, I couldn't agree more.

If non-creationists can't post in a very casual way that doesn't offer "information/opinions" or flat out debate in the Creationist subforum then they should refrain. It defeats the purpose of having non-debate forums otherwise. And that's silly.
