  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you guys think it's a bad game that a christian should stay away from?

I have been wating for a review from ccgr.com they do good jobs with the reviews. They said that the Resident Evil was not that bad of a game because there was nothing demonic in it just zombies. They only said it was bad because of violence. So what do you guys think of the game and is there any thing bad init besides zombies?

I want to play it sooo badly. I've heard it is a absolutely amazing game, way better than any of the previous Resident Evil games.

As for it being bad or not fit to play as a Christian, to each his own I have to no problem with zombies or violence (to an extent of course) and I love the RE series.

And because I haven't played the game I couldn't tell ya whether or not it had anything else bad in it, but I would think if you played the other ones you'd get the idea somewhat of what to expect.

My husband traded in enough old DVD's and some of his Xbox games just to get enough credit to get the Gamecube and this game! He ahs always been a RE fan and absolutely loves this one. The graphics are good and in this one they are not really Zombies but just a bunch of people that are being controlled by the bad dude. There may be some actual zombies later on as he has only been playing for a little while. From what I have seen it is the best RE game yet.

As for the original question I think that as long as you stay grounded in reality and don't let these types of games or movies take over you life then I don't have a problem with it.

Then you haven't played Silent Hill 4; The Room. ;) ( http://www.wlfclan.com/eileenface.jpg )

To most people, the fear factor of RE is just for fun, to get scared, they don't take offense to what's in it. If you're a huge zealot and really hate things in the world and think that all other religions are cults and that the Devil is everywhere, I'd advise to stay away from this game (Just another thing to moan about at church). But, if you don't mind a little harmless fun with a game that features horrors and monsters and questionable to your faith ideals, then go and play. :D

What?...I thought it was super scary! I've played Silent Hill 4 the room, I kinda thought it was stupid, like at first it was scary but then I just got bored (But then we're talking about the girl who sucks at video games! Haha) I think RE4 is a lot more "real" too, if you shoot them in the leg, they get shot in the leg (If that makes sense?) Heh heh. Well wooo though! haha.

That was a really good point! ;)

I have noticed a rising complency in christians recently, the difficulty in your question is a lot more than simply...well I am not offended by it so it is ok. And let me first off say that I am not saying don't play the game, for one thing I haven't see it so I will not pass judgement, for another Christ said anything is permissable. The big question is does this benefit me or harm me. Now I know a lot of you will say....well I am not influenced by those things....they don't scare me etc. etc. The problem is you are, no matter what you think everything influences you in some way our another. Games can be especially influencing because of the amount of time spent playing it.

So does it benefit you? And if so why?

Mostly I am just playing Devil's Advocate, because I play various games including "Half-Life" and various others. And a lot of this is pointed at myself. But my point is have we become so complacent with these sort of things that we simply don't even think about it any more. Shouldn't we live by high standards, not because of any rules forced by the church but because of our Love of Christ.

Just wanderings of my mind.

But the thing about RE4 is you play Leon, a trained bodygaurd who is good with weapons and gets good weapons. Hense, you have a better feel of secruity because you know there's another weapon to use. However, in SH4: The Room, you are just Henry, some guy who got sucked into this mess, whose best weapon is a rusty axe and a pistol that loses ammo fast.

The old Resident Evil games had a different flavor. Ammo was scarce, you weren’t able to move around very well and “AAAAAHHH!! zombie jumps out of closet!” kind of scary. In RE4 Leon is well armed and well trained so you don’t feel as vulnerable. However, the game play has a much faster pace and the fear is less from jumpy surprises but more from excellent atmosphere and mounting tension.

When I’m playing my thought process goes kind of like this: “Dang, they’ve spotted me. *BANG* *BANG* There’s too many, they’re calling for reinforcements. *BANG* Are they even human? What are they saying? Never mind, need to take cover in that house. *Slam* Okay, that wooden door should…oh no, they have a chainsaw!? Okay up the stairs and…Ah! They’ve already gotten up here! *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* There’s too many! Oh man, I can hear the guy with the chainsaw; he’s already in the house! What am I going to do!?”

It's less surprises but more white-knuckled panic.

Yeah true about that, but it's still scary. I mean they have land mines, and "bear traps" that pop out of nowhere. just remember it's only a game...you shouldn't think to hard about if God is going to get angry when you play it. And for the Satanic things, well first off the pentagram isn't even satanic it's feminim beauty and stuff like that, it represents venus. So that's just a holywood thing...People stress to much if it's demonic or not...who cares you aren't demonic nor will you ever plan to, so it should be all good right? I personally listen to "heavy music" for example "Dr. Online" and it's about suicide, but I just listen to the music and the how the words flow. I'm not trying to change the subject from the game, but is that an okay thing to do?...It seems like the people on this thing dislike me...But yeah.....

Yeah man, I totally agree. Christians are so desensitised these days. I heard about a study taken and it basically said that the difference between born again Christians and non-believers are non-existant. In some catogories Christians were worse. I know that everybeliever knows what is good and what is wrong, for we have Christ inside of us. RE and Silent Hill series are games that deal with fear. Is fear from God, or is fear from satan? Is the idea of the undead from God, or is it from satan? "Ah man, it is just a game. I know what is real and what isn't." But that is not the point. What doesn't edify you does you no good, but more often than not is damaging to you. Do you think satan would want you to play these games? Truly, you all know the answer. Forgive me if I come accross harsh, but I am getting a little fed up with the lack of holiness in the body of Christ.

Does it really matter that much?...It's just a game that people play to pass the time...You shouldn't question whether it's edifying or not. God isn't going to damn all video game players. Last time I checked it doesn't say "thou shall not play violent video games" in the ten commandments. EC, E, T, M, Nc-17...They are just ratings of someone's opinion of what it should be. I agree that Nc-17 games should not be sold nor should Nc-17 movies, but this is America, freedom of speech, religion, right to assemble, the first amendment. Then the ninth amendment, the right to things not stated in the constution. I ask you...What are you afraid of? We're making this huge debate whether or not some kid can play an innocent video game. It's not like he's melting all of his parents jewelry and turning into a "golden game cube"....So forgive me if I come across harsh, but I am getting a little fed up with the lack of life in the people of this world.

The age old question. No I think violent games are ok, as long as you can realize it is just a GAME!

Anyways I can't wait to play it. I am getting a gamecube for my b-day (tomorrow) and will soon be picking the game up!
