Mesa Mayor John Giles, a prominent Republican in Arizona’s largest suburb, announced his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming November election.

In an op-ed for The Arizona Republic, Giles called on Republicans to reject former President Donald Trump, citing concerns about his influence on the party’s direction.

“Our party used to champion the idea that every Arizonan, regardless of their background, should have the opportunity to pursue the American Dream,” Giles wrote. “But since Donald Trump refused to accept the outcome of the 2020 election, Republicans have yet to course correct,” he added. “The Republican Party with Trump at its helm continues down the path of political extremism, away from focusing on our fundamental freedoms.”

"Kamala Harris is the competent, just and fair leader our country deserves,” Giles said. “This year too much is at stake to vote Republican at the top of the ticket.”

Mayor Giles is a man of integrity who refuses to adopt the MAGA craziness in our state. I predict other Republicans will join him in voting for Harris....because there is no other qualified option:

I believe my party has a moral and ethical responsibility to restore faith in our democratic institutions. In the spirit of the late Sen. John McCain’s motto, “Country First,” I call on other Arizona Republicans to join me in choosing country over party this election and to vote against Donald Trump.

I wonder what hotel he’s going to living out of for the next few weeks?

I was thinking the same thing. What was that mayor smoking? It must have been some good stuff, whatever it was.

Arizona is were the illegal drugs come into the country. Drugs you can buy for $20 in Phoenix you may have to pay $100 in Alaska. It is a very rough city and I am sure Trump wants to clean it up.

Now now, it could just be a case of heat stroke.

Or both.

The mayor is speaking from his convictions which is more than I can say for many other MAGA supporters who have forsaken their conversative values. I personally have worked with the mayor and the city council in the past and can attest to this charcter and desire to improve the lives of citizens, regardless of their political views. We need more politicians like Mayor Giles.

Detractors thus far have implied the mayor is on drugs, suffering from heat stroke or a "do gooder" who believes in Moleck.

Weak.
I’m saying that supporting abortion is akin to sacrificing to Molech.

I can totally understand someone not wanting to vote for Trump truly I can but if this one who claims to be a Republican mayor and claims the Dem platform is just and fair (which she represents) then in what way can he call himself a Republican? If he's a Democratic then just come out and say it.

I’m saying you support the sacrificing to Molech.
I can't support Moloch worship as an official US government opinion, since it would fall afoul of the separation of church and state.

But abortion should be safe, legal and rare as we can make it with proper contraception and sex ed.

A few more hint's on the Mayor's stance (from the Op-ed):

We are in a moment that only happens once every few generations, when we have to defend democracy, and stand up for the right to vote and our civil rights. It is essential that we proceed in a manner that strengthens, rather than diminishes, public confidence in our democratic institutions.

What kind of country do we want to live in?

Vice President Harris is fighting to make sure Americans can get ahead and be safe from gun violence and to restore and protect the rights of women. Donald Trump, on the other hand, could enact the extreme and dangerous Project 2025 agenda if elected, which would roll back our rights and freedoms.

We can choose a future for our children and grandchildren based on decency, respect and morality — or succumb to the crudeness and vulgarity of Trump and J.D. Vance and the far-right agenda they would champion.

Arizona leaders like McCain and Sen. Mark Kelly have embodied the commitment to country over party. And it’s that same high caliber of character and leadership I see in Vice President Harris.

That’s why I’m standing with her. Kamala Harris is the competent, just and fair leader our country deserves. This year too much is at stake to vote Republican at the top of the ticket.

...as a reminder, the Arizona GOP has lost every major election since 2018 --thanks in large part to McCain Republicans like Giles who are rejecting MAGA.

As fyi, Kerry Lake won yesterday's primary, but there was significant support for her primary opponent, Mark Lamb:

With little money, little television visibility, and no prominent endorsements or surrogates to make his case, Lamb seemingly benefited from a deep reservoir of Republicans hesitant to support Lake.

Lake raised five times more money than Lamb and has 16 times more followers on the social media site X. She has the backing of former President Donald Trump, the National Republican Senatorial Committee and 23 of the 49 Republicans currently in the Senate.

Lake will lose in the General Election.

So you support it, but not officially. Gotcha.

I certainly support the right of Moloch worshippers to freely exercise their religion. As part of those religious freedoms for everyone, the government can neither promote nor suppress their religion or any religion.
