  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Republicans ready to claw back troves of Biden regulations when they take power in Washington

House and Senate Republicans are readying the little-used Congressional Review Act to repeal perhaps dozens of regulations implemented by President Biden in the waning days of his administration.
Only certain Biden regulations can be axed by the GOP under the act, specifically those finalized by the administration by early August or later.
The list of those eligible for repeal is long and Republican lawmakers are salivating at their chance to wipe some of them off the books as soon as they take control of both the House, Senate and White House in January.
“We’ll do every possible regulation we can get to. We’ll use it on everything possible that’s a bad regulation.” Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, said. “It’s a wonderful tool for undoing the bureaucratic excess of the Biden administration.”
Dozens of rules will be eligible for repeal, but Republicans will likely target two dozen or fewer due to the time it takes to get them to the president’s desk.
OPINION: This is a good tool to limit the authoritarian reach from the Biden/Harris years.

There is a point where they become oppressive and intrusive. That is where they are in Biden/Harris final months - just loading them on.

Essential regulations and over-regulation are both a thing.

I dont trust the current crop of Rs to know the difference.
They sure cannot do worse than the outgoing crop of D's who never met a regulation they didn't like.

The Congressional Review Act could definitely shake things up, but it’ll be interesting to see which regulations they prioritize. If they only have time to target a couple dozen, I hope they focus on ones with the biggest impact.

Removing the red tape will make it easier and more cost effective to run businesses and in doing so help the economy.
Just so everyone knows, this is code for reducing environmental regulations and reducing worker and product safety oversight, along with various other worker and consumer protections.

Checks and balances are good things! Too often, Congress has ceded its powers to the executive branch.

Definitely checks and balances are needed to reign in runaway spending also.

And then paying out the saved costs as nice bonuses for the managers.

We are reigning in runaway spending which should be reined in. [/didactic]

This should be done selectively, not willy-nilly, satisfying as that may be.

Too much deregulation leads to private gain with the associated costs - pollution, price-gouging, adverse health (black lung, lead and mercury poisoning - borne by the public.

Congress sure is not reigning in spending - they are ever increasing it.
This should be done selectively, not willy-nilly, satisfying as that may be.
Who is suggesting that? What I am suggesting is requiring accountability.

Good thing they are not calling for excessive deregulating.

When gazing into the looking glass of Americas future, folks often reference the Fall of Rome, and rightfully so, the similarities are uncanny.
What I seldom see addressed, are the circumstances in the Weimar Republic that led to the rise of National Socialism and the Third Reich.

Most Germans who identified as Christian at this time, which was most Germans, were completely on board at the beginning of Hitlers rise to power. It was only later of course that they began to see the error of their ways.
