There is no doubt I will be chastised for my opinion here and everyone is going to automatically go on the defense, but I have to say it:
I hate "Rep".
The idea of giving reputation for posts started out as a very good idea. Somebody makes a good/valid/insightful post and is rewarded by receiving reputation points. People could look at that person's reputation score and see that they have been a great contributor to the forums.
Enter the "repaholics". Begging and pleading for more and more rep points as if their life depended on it. There is a whole subforum dedicated to it! (which I'm surprised was even condoned) COMPLETELY taking away the meaning and purpose of what reputation was designed for. There is thread upon thread of this nonsense. "Rep me and I'll Rep you"..."Rep everyone on the page"..."Beggars Banquet", etc. I've noticed on most of these threads, people don't even post ANYTHING other than a number or the word "rep" or something to that extent. And then it's like some huge accomplishment in their life when they reach a new level of rep. There are now "Trillionaire Only" rep clubs!
Now. I'm trying to be very careful not to blatantly offend anyone, although I know it's inevitable because I've found there are some very sensitive people on this forum. BUT, I find the whole reputation system, or what it has become, quite sickening and pathetic. I have absolutely no problem with people having nonsense threads and posting for fun or whatever. And I don't necessarily have a problem with rep threads that are more than just "Rep me because I'm a Repaholic and I need my REPS!". Bible Verses for Reps, Encouraging words for reps...I don't think that's all that bad. But in my eyes, all this begging for reps and spending hours trying to up your points is all kind of symbolic of greed. Maybe ok on another website, but this is Christian Forums and I don't think it's sending a very good message. Reps have completely lost their meaning. There are so many people who have been members for years and have continuosly posted positive and thoughtful/insightful posts and have next to nothing in the rep department. Then you have these people who have spent all of their time on Christian Forums in the recreation room and rep threads and have five hundred trillion reps. They have begged and begged and adjusted their sleep schedule so that they could rep the minute they were "reloaded". To a newbie or outsider it would appear as though this person really contributed to making CF a great place, when it reality they did nothing but play games and barter and beg for more reps.
In conclusion, I'd like to reiterate that I have no problem with having fun and keeping the mood light and playing games online. But hasn't this rep thing gone to far? Why not save reputation for its desired purpose and stop all the meaningless begging?
