Reproach is a Bible term used to describe the shame, guilt, and punishment that has been earned and rightly applied to someone's account before God. Romans 15:3 says "The reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me."
In God's mind, a lost person has all their "reproach" for a lifetime of wrong doing and wrong thinking and a wrong heart (what we technically call "SIN") squarely placed on their own shoulders. However, if called of the Holy Spirit unto repentence and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, they will have that reproach actually transfered to Christ's shoulders.
"The reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me."
Not only that, but the perfect sinlessness of the Life,Death and Resurrection of Christ is placed on MY SHOULDERS.
God chooses, by His Grace, to view you and your record as being exactly the record of Jesus, sinless Beloved Son of God.
"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the Sons of God, even to them that believe on His name."
I confess that I have always thought that the "receiving" was chosen and done by the sinner. I thought it was "receiving Jesus into your heart". But look at that verse in context with what we know about the Gift of God, Jesus.
Friend, the receivng was NONE OF OUR DOING. Because of the Work of Christ and simple faith in Christ, He recieved...what? You? No...He received your sinful guilt. And then you received something, but not as an act of choosing one way or the other...but because of Christ taking YOUR sin, you BY GRACE received His perfection!
Now look at the verse..."But as many as (had Christ's sinlessness applied to them)to them gave He power to become the Sons of God (and why not? God has already chosen to view our record as belonging to the Son of God...Jesus!) ,even to them that believe in His name."
I felt led of God to mention this...somebody out there needed it.
