18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also

When I was growing up the communist revolution raged across the world. It was authoritarian, totalitarian atheism. They followed the teachings of Karl Marx. The U.S.S.R. and China sponsored revolutions around the world. Christians were arrested, fired from jobs, had property confiscated and were sent to prison labor camps. The fall of the U.S.S.R. c. 1990 stopped some of the persecution.

There is a greater likelihood of being offended in high crime neighborhoods than low crime neighborhoods. The rich can afford more security. Suffering becoming a victim of crime could happen whether you are Christian or not. I have to lock my car and home. Some are not hired for refusing to work on Sundays. Is this persecution?

I talked to a neighbor about Jesus. He told me he did not want me to speak about Jesus again. I stopped talking to him. I did not consider it persecution.

There has been vandalism of churches. In a nation where they opened fire on children in schools, some churches were under fire too. Gun control laws are not strict enough.
