CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It seems folks enjoy giving em away, and it bothers y'all when you can't. I enjoy giving 'em away too, which was part of the rep and hide philosophy I was trying for a while. Okay, for a day. Anyway, I stopped my experiment. It might take a while for the reciproreps to come back though.

I remember reading a column once (might have been Hints from Heloise, might have been Erma Bombeck) that rather than driving yourself nuts cleaning when company comes - you should stand in the doorway of a room - clean everything that is readily visible (after all, no one is going to get down on their hands and knees and look under your sofa for dust bunnies) then soak a cleaning rag with some PineSol (or similarly scented cleaner) and just wave it around the rooms a few times. Everyone will think you slaved and slaved making a nice, inviting environment for them.
LOL - I'm one of 4 sisters. When we were growing up my dad would, on occasion, call us all together and point to something on the floor - for example a paper clip. He would stand there pointing at the item in question and say (loudly and rather angrily) "I must have walked over this 20 times and no one has picked it up!!" Then he'd stand there staring at us until one of us picked it up. I always wondered (but never asked - he didn't raise any dummies) why didn't he pick it up one of the 20 times he walked over it
Oh - and I only clean the top of the fridge when folks >6 feet are coming to visit.
Well.....
I haven't felt well all fall and so far this winter. My house is very dusty and I somehow became motivated this week to do something about it. Now if I can just get my husband to clean the outside windows.....................
