  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

This Rep Coaches®: BETA TEST THREAD is a thread for me to do a trial run for the Rep Coaches® program.

NOTE

[1] I welcome fellow repaholics to comment on this thread and the Beta Program here: New Feature: Rep Coaches®.

I want to keep this thread limited to the test participants. This will minimize confusion.

[2] I will begin with one pupil and do some coaching in the thread. You might get some tips from reading but please post comments in New Feature: Rep Coaches®.

Synger has agreed to be the guinea pig (I mean pupil).

[3] I may add one or two more Coach-Pupil Test Teams to the thread as it progresses.

[4] When I think the concept is ready to Launch we will do so. So watch this thread give feedback here: New Feature: Rep Coaches®

This is a TEST. This is ONLY a TEST!

Welcome to the Rep Coaches® Beta Test Program

SYNGER, tell me a little about your prior rep story and your rep aspirations.

Myself, I did reps the hard way for years -- i.e. actually earning them unsolicited. Then the rule against begging for reps was dropped and for me it was a  moment. I found my way to the Blessing Exchange and began to participate. My rep count was about where yours is as I recall.

It occurred to me that the biggest barriers to achievement was timidity and dignity. SO, I took the opposite road and the rest is history.

Your first assignment is to read the first post here:
Repaholic's Primer. Then select one or two ideas and try it.

Guinea pig, eh? Cute, or fried? Well, we'll see...

I'll admit that big reps have always impressed me, especially in the Time Before Begging. The people whose posting I most admired usually had larger reps. I've been conflicted about the changes, in that reps no longer necessarily mean admirable posts. So I still have some timidity, even now that it's okay to ask for reps.

But as I've participated here and there in rep threads (and I've done it sporadically for a couple months now), I've found a couple things that I really like about it.

  • It enhances my ability to show how much good posting impresses me. It means more to give someone 287 reps than it does to give them 10. I like being able to use a higher rep power to encourage folks.
  • It's crazy-fun. Sometimes I get too bogged down in staff and policy stuff, and I start losing heart. Coming here to join the rep army always makes me smile. It's a wonderful fellowship, even if it's supreme silliness.
While I'm working on my timidity, dignity is still a rather big thing for me. I tend to be over-polite (to a fault at times, I think), especially in writing (which means online). I come from old-school Internet, before there was a Web, and a lot of that still sticks. I seldom use smilies, or glitter, or symbol-speech (dood? Whatever it's called).

So, goals.... I want to have a rep power big enough to make a nice jump in someone's reputation. I want to work on being a little less formal when fellowshipping. And I want to have fun doing it.

RepDaddy has chosen his pupil well. Having a year or so on staff myself, I know the necessity of having a place to kick back, have fun, snag reps and not have to be in Mod mode.

The road to REP Clout is not becoming a RD clone but to find the rep tools that work for you and then roll up your sleeves. If you survey the Repzillas here (repzilla = 10 Stars or more) they are not all alike. So we want you to bring out your own "inner Repzilla."

However, rapid advancement will require setting aside the shy side and trying things.

TIP #1 -- Site Supporters have 40 reps/day and can give them with fewer restrictions so THAT would make a big difference if you are not a SS at present. Rep a lot (you can throw some at me for practice), folks rep reppers.

Looked at the Avatar auction (A), but it's not going right now.

So I am trying Cats for reps.

I also have been trying the "Go to every rep thread" approach. I'm still in the mindset of only having 10 reps to give out and not being able to rep the same person, but I think I'll get over that fairly quickly through this practice.

Most of the other Primer things are motivational rather than actual practices to be done. It would be very useful to have an action tip for each one.

Definitely. I started today with 287 in rep power, and now have 439.

Much of that came from participating in Saucy's challenge, in which if you rep him 10 times, he'll rep you back 10 times. Very effective for a turbo-boost of reps.

I also posted in about eight rolling rep threads, from "rep the two above you" to "getting your first star".

It's very nice to have 40 rep clicks a day. Very potent.

523, 339. That's an amazing jump in one afternoon!

Do you find it best to give out reps all in one lump, like over a two hour period? Or to scatter them throughout your day so that you're constantly refreshing them? I'm finding it frustrating to be without rep power, and still wanting to participate in the threads. I feel like I can't unless I rep folks. And there are only a few "just fellowship" threads... most of them obviously turn to repping after a while.

Great questions

It has been a amazing jump. You did some new things (Cat thread and Rep Coach Test) that got attention and reps, but mostly you participated and had fun! Keep it up.

I prefer to not mass rep but to pace myself so that I can take advantage of high activity periods. Mornings and evenings often are higher traffic and it is nice to have 5-8 left for special occasions and to encourage people who are struggling, etc.

To be repped out is no shame. It means you have maxed out what you can do. If you are out you can still participate -- people have been there too. And a "I'll rep you later" followed up on is very encouraging. Also an "I'm out now but here are a few blessings" is cool.

When I came most of the threads were rep exchange threads. So I started threads that had a fellowship component. The Strange But True thread (where you tell something about yourself) was a hoot and lots of folks got repped. Community building and get to know you threads are great. Folks respond both with posts and reps.

I enjoy the creativity here. Im looking for a job this thread is an example... there are many others.

People here want reps but they want to build some friendships.

You had a GREAT first day! But it is not OVER.

I think you're completely right about the creativity and fellowship. If it were just about the reps, I think it would get old after awhile. But add an element of fun, or a contest, or something like that, and it takes on a whole new dimension.

I'm finding already that I prefer the more talkative threads to the "rolling reps" threads where everyone just reps up the line a certain number of posters. I participate in them, of course (they're still good for reps), but I spend more time in other threads.

I think I'm going to start a thread where we can collect the good rep ideas we see in one place. Threads scroll off the first page SO fast. That way, we can share our rep-genius with one another. Together we can build a Citadel of Repaliciousness!

synger: You are well on your way to that STAR. GREAT work. Keep checking in here and as always questions are welcome....

RepDaddy is adding another pupil to the test program, D'Ann.
D'Ann is a brand new repaholic and a long time CF member. It will be fun to see how she does.

Welcome, D'Ann. You have STAR potential.

Read post #2 here as a start and share a bit about yourself and your rep-story.

Read the rest of this thread as well.
