  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Heyy I m working on a somewhat strange commission. It's from an art agent so I have no direct contact with the client. It's supposed to be in the flavor of the famous Napoleon Crossing the Alps (which isn't really renaissance) but the figure has to be a Centaur and the face was a picture of who I am presuming is a young CEO. No nudity is allowed since it will be hanging in the office. Here's where I"m at. I had a version with looser brush strokes but was requested by the agent to tighten it up a bit. I went with a reddish tunic since that was the color of the cape in the Napoleon reference painting. Red was an expensive dye at the time and suggested wealth or nobility I believe. . The landscape is from my own reference photos of Zion National Park. Any suggestions to improve it. I'm thinking of reworking the horse fur. When I'm done with this I have to do a female centaur

Dude, that's my boss! I knew it! I knew he was insane!

Do you think he will object to what my wife is calling 'a pink dress.' I already had to blend under his right pect to ameliorate the lady bosom. I wanted him to be ripped.

Perhaps some matching red barding for the horse section would help. Currently the garment transition to the horse body seems sudden. It may need more folds or a drape pattern.

I agree with tall73. Most centaurs are depicted bare-chested. I think this allows for a more gradual transition of color and texture between the horse and the man. With that "pink dress", the transition is very abrupt. Kinda looks like a human torso plopped onto a horse torso rather than one contiguous creature.

This is very strange. The painting is meant to be humorous, I hope?
When I'm done with this I have to do a female centaur
Will this be the guy's wife? The Chief Financial Officer, or what? Very strange.

I tried for bare chested, even had it drawn out that way, but was veto'd due to the partial nudity.

I believe it is, but it's an expensive gag if that is what it is. It's going to be professionally framed, shipped, my rate, the commission. x2

Not sure. I've heard of couples getting matching tattoos, but matching centaur portraits? Maybe that's more 'west coast.' Originally I was supposed to receive a head shot of the centauress, but she must have come down with the cold hooves, so now I'm allowed creative license. I'm thinking maybe Angelina Jolie. Any suggestions?

That's a great idea. Ill see if the art rep has any objections with it is as is and will propose that option if necessary.

Well at least this egomaniacal CEO has better taste than the President of Russia.
Any suggestions?
Sarah Jessica Parker? :sorry:

One other thing. It kinda looks like he's turned almost 180 degrees backwards.

I see what you mean. I was going for him twisting and stretching to shoot at something behind him. The position of the bow and his arms help with the composition. I might be able to adjust the tunic to make it seem more natural.

Sarah Jessica Parker? :sorry:
Yes! She has the hair for it! :sorry:
