Jesus prayed in Gethsemene in Lk 22:
NIV, Ps 75:
Is 51:
Je 51:
Jesus knew the cup represented God's judgment on the wicked. It represented his divine wrath and sword to punish all nations. Jesus prayed that the Father would take away this cup of wrath from him. Nevertheless, Mt 26:
What was this cup?42 “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
NIV, Ps 75:
God judges the wicked with a cup in his hand. They drink the cup of judgment to the very dregs.7 It is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another. 8 In the hand of the Lord is a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices; he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to its very dregs.
Is 51:
God's cup of judgment contains his wrath.17 Wake yourself, wake yourself, stand up, O Jerusalem, you who have drunk from the hand of the Lord the cup of his wrath, who have drunk to the dregs the bowl, the cup of staggering.
Je 51:
God's cup symbolizes his sword.15 Thus the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from my hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it. 16 They shall drink and stagger and be crazed because of the sword that I am sending among them.”
Jesus knew the cup represented God's judgment on the wicked. It represented his divine wrath and sword to punish all nations. Jesus prayed that the Father would take away this cup of wrath from him. Nevertheless, Mt 26:
Jesus accepted God's cup of wrath. The Father temporarily forsook him in order to let him die on the cross.42 again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”
