I Svt4Him, if my opinion of your posts stating your opinions ever mattered to you, then you'll have to do without it now because you didn't want it enough to allow the rest of us to share it with anyone you deemed "undeserving".

Can you maybe let me know what this means, as honestly I have no idea?

I'm sorry if that's unlcear--my monitor is going out, so I can barely ee to type, and it's worse than ever now.
Many of us didn't feel that rep could or should be deserved. One of you who did started a thread on "Rep Reform", and a few who chimed in felt that the only solution was to cut everyones' ability to rep others.
So..now, not only are the rep clubes all closed, none of us can apparently assign more than a fraction of the rep we used to, so I can no longer give a satiifying amount of rep to newbies, and have shut my rep off as worthless.
This means that no one whose post meets your high standards will be receiving rep from me, either, and that includes you, nor can I receive it from your, supposing that you ever want to rep a post of mine.
You'lll live through it, though, as will everyone else who repped me whether I deserved it or not. I always went with the dictionary definition of the term "reputation". Anyone who wants it to mean more is better off without my participation. Whether posts were good was only my opinion; no more, no less.
I deserved my rep power as much as anyone, which is to say not at all, really.;)

Yeah.. real interesting to watch it unfold, especially on a forum like this.

Must be something in the air though... every forum I go to lately seems to have issues coming to a head. Except here, I thought I would never see an issue like this.

Funny? no... Ironic? yeah, maybe. Well, maybe funny too, from my POV.

I would say that it was a very silly debate indeed, except that some of the people in the Friendship Court were really upset about it. People that go there exclusively often don't go here, so the rep thing was a nasty surprise.

I already said my piece, but what I can't figure out is why some people are still carrying it on even though it's been changed to their (few) satisfaction. All it's going to do is get the thread closed and possibly warnings if it gets too bad, like to the point of flaming... :sigh:

Once, it was a great thing for a person to have 15,000 rep points. Now, the system has been abused so much people are playing with it. It is just not right!
Often they rep and leave no message. Reps are going up and up and up just by playing.
Is that right?
What is the fascination with high rep points?
If you think that exceptionally high rep means anything now on CF, I can tell you right here and now, it does not. It means zilch now.

Once, it mean't that we were posting and helping people, showing our love, consideration and care of people who had been emotionally traumatised, who were searching, who were questioning.
Now, the reps mean nothing. Nothing at all. Why? Because they are a game!!

Once, the messages were " thankyou so much, you helped me in ... " Now, I was repped in a so called Non Rep Thread with no message whatsoever!

Am I angry about this? You bet I am. You bet I am ..... I am angry, and hurt at this deceit!

Get out there and EARN YOUR REPS!! There are people in need on CF!
I've yet to send a REP to someone in "play" mode.....I've repped forum people that have made me laugh..and been a highlight here...you have it wrong..but your the OP..see ya

What we have done is a fair compromise - the rep system has not been shut down, no reps have been reset back to zero, people can still rep as much as they like, but we have started enforcing an already existing rule and we have limited the amount of reps that go around. Neither the "pro-rep" and the "anti-rep" people are completely happy, but that means we have some sort of balance happening.

Perhaps. LOL. I wasn't just talking about here.. there seems to be unrest in all the groups I see lately. If it's not one thing, it's another.

I was greatly disappointed too, but it's worth trying it for a while and see how it feels, that is I'm willing to try it out. I hope others calm down and just see that perhaps it's not as bad as they think. :)

Why is my standard high? Or is it just high relative to someone who has no standards? And I should clarify, as it sounds worse if I put it that way, I mean no standards as you said that you give to those who do and do not deserve it. Therefore there are no standards for that, not that you have no standards.

reputation

n 1: the state of being held in high esteem and honor [syn: repute] [ant: disrepute] 2: notoriety for some particular characteristic; "his reputation for promiscuity" 3: the general estimation that the public has for a person; "he acquired a reputation as an actor before he started writing"; "he was a person of bad report" [syn: report]

Reputation is all a matter of opinion. There's nothing wrong with having high standards of posting (I have personal standards for posting, although I rarelymeet them), but it's not right to require them of everyone here. How could all of our members, as deverse as they are, possibly do that, at least in your eyes? We're all different, and even have very diffferent ideas of what the rep system here should be all about. I say it should be for fun, but what happens? We wrangle over it until it's no fun for anyone, yet it can never measure what you folks who are so serious about it want it to, by definition.

It actually was an awesome feeling to rep some newbie with almost no reputation and seee it change into 1500+... That must feel awesome...like a hug a friendly smile from someone you dont know... to get your reps changed that way... anyway the amout of reps does not reflect the amount of sensible post one makes...

I often give reps to say hi or give a hug or because i think it is a nice post... :D

Is there not another way to ban begging for reps and blessings?

And rep threads were fun...like jumping into bunch of hugz!

Yes, they were fun, and so was being able to give out lots of rep points to people who had very few: These things made a great many of us happy. But "fun" wasn't the point for some of our members. I can only hope that they're happy with it now, so that someone is happy with it.
It was a fun opinion, which i enjoyed very much, but now it's not.
