Erwin changed the power with which one can rep. Aye, I now am only able to give people 250 or so reps whereas before, it was much more. Well.... that doesn't bother me as much as the 100 people limit which erwin had installed before (and thankfully changed back to a sensible 20).

Yahhh, that would have meant waiting 10 days or more to rep the same person. I went over and read the 2 threads Caitlincares posted. Hadn't seen those. The Title of the threads didn't hint that the rep values had changed. Like I said before, I think the value change will affect newbies and those with lower reps than those with reps in the 100K and up range. Oh well. :)

Now I DO have a question and concern. It used to be you could give 1 rep point per every 100 you had, (plus a few extra get added in for other things I forget. So if you had 1000 reps yourself you could give 10 when you repped someone. 10,000 gave you 100 to give, 100,000 gave you 1,000, and so on.
I noticed starting yesterday that when I rep someone now I only give 500 some odd points to that person, whereas before it was 5,000. Seems to me our repping power has been cut to 10% of what it was.

Is this a glitch or was something changed again??
It really doesn't matter for the amount of reps I have, but I would think such a system really affects people who have less rep points. People with few reps hardly have any repping power at all, and it makes it harder for them to gain rep power.

I'm just wondering why suddenly it seems the amount we give was cut to 10% of what it once was, and this happened in the past couple days. Didn't see anything in announcements about this....

I just noticed that...I repped someone and it only raised him something like 11 or 12 points. Then I came here to find out what was going on. How sad :(

I turned mine off until this weighty issue was resolved, but if this is true, then I see no reason to turn my rep back on at all, ever again. Obviously the point of this exercise has been to spoil all our fun, and it's been duly spoiled.

I now have 21,485 rep points, but can't give away a fair proportion of them to new members, as I once did. It's worse than sad when a very few disgruntled, Grinch-like dogs in the manger are given the power to ruin the rep system for the all rest of us who belong to Christian Forums. :(

jesusfreak4888, your exceptionally generous and giving thread is also doomed, because no one can now accept your Christian offer of undeserved blessings without breaking the rules, even though everyone can buy and sell with them, as usual. They're only currency now; not blessings.
I'm so sorry.

My friend use to Thaibox, then became the Canadian champ in his division. He was then fighting, and at the fight, a new fighter with a total of three fights, verses my friends 20+ was fighting for the Canadian 'Muai Thai' Champ. Then there was the 'Muai Thai' Canadian champ, then anyone who wanted one could pretty much get a title, and he said it was then useless to him. To me reps show that people agree with a post. There are even times I've rep'ed people who I disagree with, but thought they did their post in a good way. To have people give rep points just because they've posted in a rep point thread dilutes the whole purpose of the rep points to begin with, IMO. Like the boxing title, when anyone can get it or buy it, it means nothing. Now that said, if it stays or goes, I personally think maturity is shown by how we act when we disagree with something, yet still have to continue on. It's easy to say we want to be blessings to others, well if I make a decision that my kids don't agree with, it blesses me when they listen without complaining about how much they've lost.

I used to give reps for those reasons, too, but we're only speaking of opinions, and my opinions were no more golden than my posts. In the end, they were every bit as undeserved as the rep I gave to newbies becuse they had had to ask a question in Support soon after joining, and the rep I gave to others in the rep club, and I worked every bit as hard on my "trivial" rep club posts as I did on ones you would regard as serious (supposing that any of them ever met your standards).
If that rep is gone, so that I can no longer do that, then I have no illusions that any member here who knows me can possibly find my rep of any more value than those newbies, so my rep stays off. Svt4Him, if my opinion of your posts stating your opinions ever mattered to you, then you'll have to do without it now because you didn't want it enough to allow the rest of us to share it with anyone you deemed "undeserving".
All you've accomplished is to start a completely opposite rep club and forced membership in it on everyone of us here, and I don't want to play; I don't even presume to qualify for membership in your club.

Is there something in the water?

When I taught 7th grade, this was about the time of year when the whining and tattling began. I guess the phases of the moon still mess with us when we're grown.

I knew teachers who went nuts trying to adjust their "rules" to the Whine of the Day: The rule said no hitting, but didn't mention kicking -- oops, add a rule. I didn't break any rules, I just pinched -- oops, add a rule. She hit me with a belt, but everybody was hitting with belts except the one I hit -- oops, no hitting with belts and -- oops, no tying up the teacher with them. For these poor teachers with their rules growing by the minute, kids were uncooperative and teaching was tiring.

My rules were these: Respect yourself, respect others, respect this place. Believe it or not, the seventh graders, those Harbingers of Hormones, got it. They always knew which rules they'd broken -- and knew that when they broke the second or third, they had already broken the first. They also knew, or learned in my class, that "fair" did not mean "equal".

I wish I could give more reputation out; for whatever reason, I'm limited to 10 hits a day. Some days I resort to blessings instead, or giving armor, because I've repped my limit. I'm sure I miss repping incredibly worthy posts just because I didn't get around to reading them all. I doubt I'll take it to court. But when I feel I must take my marbles and go play by myself, I hope I'll have the good grace to do it and not stay and pick a point to death.

Now see what you made me do? -- cb

Once, it was a great thing for a person to have 15,000 rep points. Now, the system has been abused so much people are playing with it. It is just not right!
Often they rep and leave no message. Reps are going up and up and up just by playing.
Is that right?
What is the fascination with high rep points?
If you think that exceptionally high rep means anything now on CF, I can tell you right here and now, it does not. It means zilch now.

Once, it mean't that we were posting and helping people, showing our love, consideration and care of people who had been emotionally traumatised, who were searching, who were questioning.
Now, the reps mean nothing. Nothing at all. Why? Because they are a game!!

Once, the messages were " thankyou so much, you helped me in ... " Now, I was repped in a so called Non Rep Thread with no message whatsoever!

Am I angry about this? You bet I am. You bet I am ..... I am angry, and hurt at this deceit!

Get out there and EARN YOUR REPS!! There are people in need on CF!

I joined about a year and a half ago. I understand that there used to be both positive and negative reps, but shortly before I joined the negative reps were done away with.

When I first joined, I found that in the discussion and debate forums a person's reputation meant something. If the member's post count:reputation ratio was in the range of 10:1, the poster was a serious, intelligent and respectable participant. If it was lower, the person's contributions were probably not so good. If it was higher, rep was meaningless. I assumed the person spent more time in fellowship threads than discussion and debate. That was OK, but their reputation didn't say much about their ability in discussion and debate.

Negative reputations were eliminated. Probably for good reasons. Since I have no experience with that system, I have no basis for comment. However, I think that the elimination of negative reps has, over time, resulted in lots of people realizing that this point system no longer really has anything to do with reputation at all. It has morphed into something else.

It is for this reason that I have suggested that negative reps be restored or the system be given a different name.

Yes, no, right, no, uh uh. Kind of though. Know what I mean?

Uncle Bud said:
Have you been to the fellowship section lately? 95% of the threads there are meaningless and bandwidth hogs. There are threads just for adding post counts, what are your wearing, smelling, listening to, eating, and looking at threads. It is amazing the amount of nonsense that is enjoyed by many people in there, including myself.

Right. It's easy to get distracted seeing what creative things people come up with to do/say/post. The Official Polls can get quite interesting too. But is it nonsense? Is it a waste of bandwidth?

If CF is a Playground, then it is a Playground. If it is serious, then it needs a severe overhaul. Someone suggested what to get rid of, can called it CF Lite.

But, as long as there are CO and FAM forums of all types, and flavors, people will find what interests them. Some people like to argue and disect and examine and refute all sorts of things... there are forums for them too. That's how I found CF. It was the Relaxation and Friendship forums that Kept me coming back.

I never got a headache from a cutesy Rep comment, nor from a guest book comment, or most PMs, or Did you Smile today? or most any thread in the Relaxation or Friendship forums. But some posts in the GA type areas, and even responses in Official Polls just makes my head spin.

Can't have it both ways.. it's either serious, put on a suit and tie before entering place, or it's a fun place for ALL ages. No other forum that I've seen or been on where people proudly show their age, and I'm really surprised at the low numbers that show up. Do you want to match wits in GA, or chat about the weather in R or FC forums with the young ones? Serves a purpose, no?

The rep system itself is corrupt as it is based on opinions, not actual worthiness. I could post that my Aunt Alberta was a cross dressing donkey and someone could say, hey that was funny and rep that post. Was it worth repping? No. People rep to say hi. Others rep to say good bye.

Right. For 10 posts you like, you can make cute comments or say HI  or whatever you like. Otherwise you have to open a new window or leave a thread to send a PM or post in a guest book. The Reps are great for commenting about a post and not leaving the thread.

Sure, some people spent a lot of time saying very little, and spending a whole lot of time in those reppy threads. But a whole lotta people were having a lot of safe, harmless, enjoyable (obviously) fun doing it.

Not every post that is repped is worth being repped and not every post that is worth being repped is repped. It is all subjective nonsense.

I tried to save most of my Rep comments for commenting to posts that were worthy... thought provoking, interesting points in complex threads, etc. and when I was caught up on those threads, if any were left over, I joined the fun a bit too. But everyone had the same abilities, everyone chooses where to spend their time.

Rules are one thing, but ability creates status quo... people catch on, get side tracked, and spend their time where they find enjoyment.

It is your world you created it, I am just a resident. Just thought I would express my displeasure in this regard. Thanks for your time.

Yep... Whatever... we're just guests here.
