  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

For those of you that might be members of the US Naval Institute and read Proceedings, there was an article a couple years ago about this.

There are things that go on in the Navy, and while most of the incident has been declassified, trust me when I say not all of it will ever be. The USS Liberty was unfortunate and the loss is great, but anyone who's been involved in the Navy knows how much goes on and how much will never be talked about except behind closed doors.

Fair winds and following seas to all those involved. Our loss is not that of a war of glory an honor but that of a secret, of hushed lips for the protection of information. Those that die in the honor of war are heroes, and given medals and ceremony, but those that die in closed files leave for their families the pain of never truly knowing truth. God be with them all.

Retaliation might be to much to hope for at this late date but at least we could quit propping up Israel.
It's not like they have any oil...
If Israel had attacked the Liberty on purpose I do not see why we wouldn't have retaliated. We've done this before when our ships have been attacked. I see no logical reason why Israel would have deliberately attacked the Liberty, nor do I see any convincing evidence of this.

I know that IrishJohan will have a problem with this. It will make no sense to others. Everything will be challenged. May I say in their defense that these guys were not callused. That’s just how they saw it. Mind, this conversation has been hosted many times and in many places. Plenty of people have and will continue to disagree. My point is that this is how those particular students and soldiers assessed the incident at that time.
I have no problems discussing it or any other such mysterious episodes, like what happened to the USS Maine. Yet there has to be something of fact and logic, not just conspiracy theories of which we have had far too much of in this country.

I have trouble discussing mysterious things because they’re so–well...mysterious. Some conspiracy theorists may talk a good line, but hard evidence is lacking. It’s like saying that the images in your TV are made by a mouse who paints pictures with its tail. Really? How do you know? Let’s break the picture tube. Ooops! No mouse! See–that proves I’m right! As soon as we broke the tube, the little blither ran away! Don’t believe me? Show me the mouse! It’s a conspiracy. So you don’t expect to find evidence about, do you.
We hear also of cover-ups. They face the same problem, but lack some of the "la-la land" connotation. Maybe that’s why "conspiracy theory" is the preferred phraseology.

Fact and logic rock. Some know the fact, others that there is nothing to know. Still others admit not to know. Weak? Perhaps. But offering nothing to rebut, neither does it allow closure. Of all answers, the most damning may be reserved judgment.

And some may be ready to reserve judgment for a long, long time.

Blessings!

Hi all!

This http://tinyurl.com/2urjt was in Friday's Jerusalem Post. It's an article that shows some of the Israeli Air Force transcriptsfrom the attack on the USS Liberty & an interview with one of the Israeli pilots who were involved.

Be well!
