For those of you that might be members of the US Naval Institute and read Proceedings, there was an article a couple years ago about this.
There are things that go on in the Navy, and while most of the incident has been declassified, trust me when I say not all of it will ever be. The USS Liberty was unfortunate and the loss is great, but anyone who's been involved in the Navy knows how much goes on and how much will never be talked about except behind closed doors.
Fair winds and following seas to all those involved. Our loss is not that of a war of glory an honor but that of a secret, of hushed lips for the protection of information. Those that die in the honor of war are heroes, and given medals and ceremony, but those that die in closed files leave for their families the pain of never truly knowing truth. God be with them all.
