Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Remarriage - please explain?"

EVERYONE ALWAYS does this because when people are judging the sins of others and make a hierarchy of sins(the point of my original post) they are NOT judging themselves or placing their own sins on top. I suppose there may be the odd person or two out there who would consider count themselves among the guilty when suggesting others are living in sin, but not enough for me to count. Sorry you got irritated though.
Breaking ten of ten commandments is worse than breaking two. Murder is worse than lying, and rape is worse than being a little lazy.

I do not know who you spend time with, but among my crowd I see many people who are fairly impartial when judging themselves. In fact, in my crowd there is a problem with people coming down too hard on themselves. Saying EVERYONE ALWAYS does this is ALWAYS COMPLETELY wrong.
BTW when did obesity become healthy?
I did not say obeisity is healthy. I clearly said it is unhealthy.

The point, I think should be not to ask the question you are posing, but to ask why our LEGAL system should in any way be influenced by ANY religious group. I'd like to get "married" to my partner, not in the eyes of god, but in the eyes of the state so that I can have the same rights as my fellow heterosexuals. I don't want god to have any part of it, and I don't think the church should have any say in it either. Keep "marriage" in the church all you want, but stop trying to impose "god's law" on all the rest of us. It isn't right.

Indeed it is hypocritical, as is christianity on a lot of different topics. It's not really fair to speak on behalf of someone, especially if you do not hold their beliefs.

I'd agree that it is hypocritical to say it is ok for someone to re-marry and other not to be married based on sexual orientation. I'll also agree that any religion + government is a vial mix.

However if the majority of a society are christian and deem themselves Christian, then you would expect them to follow Christian values, such as the ten commandments. You might also expect influence from that religion to have an influence on the majority of society. Moreover if "God's law" is in-line with other beliefs or even scientific evidence, then irrespective of if it is apart of a religion it should be considered... Such as prostitution (STDS etc).

Such as yet there seems to be minimal evidence to suggest that homosexual marriege would be a negative on society.

I agree. And another point to make is that alot of people are arguing against gay marriage with such a fervor when the bible is really unclear on homosexuality. Depends on who you ask, imo, and you may get several different answers. So we have a group of people arguing something that they promote as fact, when in fact, it ISN'T fact. Makes my head spin sometimes ;)

When I talk about people always finding someone else's 'sin' worse I'm not just speaking of Christan's or in a religious context, but of human nature. Everyone needs to know that there are things worse than whatever it is they have done. And even if it's not something they speak about it is something they think about because it's a way of keeping things in check. Unfortunately it sometimes becomes legalistic, as in the remarriage issue. It's at that point that people will draw the line with themselves on one side (the good side) and someone else on the other.

Yeah I agree, especially when you get people who supposively are meant to represent a religion trying to state that the bible says something specific about homosexuality.
