Cleaning up the concept of clean.
In John 15:3 Jesus says to His disciples, now you are clean through the word I have spoken to you. A clean thing is prepared for use, like someone who has received the word of God has been prepared to share the word of God. So Jesus is saying you have been prepared to bear fruit. But even though you have been enlightened, you can do nothing unless you abide in Me and I abide in you. Or in other words, unless you are spiritually born again and indwelt. Judas was not clean, he had not been prepared for holy service, but for betrayal.
