  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

:tutu: one thing i have realised.. as young as i am in the o faith.. ppl are very defensive when i come to them to speak of the sabbath faith.. or any other beliefs that i have found in the bible.. i have seen in the bible where peter sed to his brethrin that we should pul other christians into arguments...

some ppl believe that any doctrine.. as long as u believe in Jesus u will survive.. i know it is hard for ppl to accept another faith. alot of ppl worship faith and not GOD... but still.. how do we spread the gospel if ppl are so defensive? its like they are ready to hog u if u mention the 4th commandment .. geez..

i have been saying to myself that i will not say anything to them and let them stay with their veiws.. for they are arguing about stupid things like food to eat and liqour to drink and fashion etc.. however the mere fact that ppl are defending these things of the world tells me that there is something wrong with the situation. why would ppl so badly want to defend alcohol? i mean if someone was showing why its not to drink why would we argue.. its something that we dont need.. something of this world.. and something that is causing alot of sickness..

so how do u other seventh day adlventist deal with this issue. when i mention to ppl that i am seventh day adventist is like they are immediately stiffened.. i dunno. they say its cult and legalistic and all sorts of things.. how do u cope with spreading the word.. if u do.?

for ppl who are not seventh day .. do u grasp the concept of what i am saying. have u even been in such a position. what is your point of veiw in a situation like this. how hard would it be f u to give up some of these things that seventh day adventist dont believe in.. for example satur. days.. alcohol.. jewelry PORK RABBIT and all the other food dont remember no more.. lol

this is strictly for discussion purposes.. i am new to the faith so i have question. i ask as mature ppl that we have no argument :D:angel:

It often depends on the way you address a topic. If you addressed the harmful effects of alcohol very few would disagree with you. You would have a wealth of science and societal impact to deal with. However if you suggested that the Bible prohibits alcohol then you have a much harder time because it would be contradicted by numerous Bible comments about alcohol.

i dunno if they (SDA) say that the bible says donot drink... i think they say its not good for your health thats how i hear its being brought across. some speak about the new wine issue. but i dont really speak about liquo only u know. there are so many issues relating to worldian issues. why i dont fully support the SDA beliefs on some things.. say the drinking of alcohol... why would ppl be so defensive about it when it. BAD FOR U!!!

Hi,

While it's truth that you can try to deliver it in a way that's not offensive to people, but the fact is no matter how much you try, you will not please everyone.

Matthew 10:32 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake:...

John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

Our job is not to make people like us. Take the Ezekiel's story for example, God told Ezekiel they would not listen to him, but told him to preach to them anyway, 'so when it came to pass, they will know I AM the LORD.'

So our job is to deliver the message. It's not to convince anyone.

I hadn't realized just how much of a stigma was attached to SDA's until I became one. In some cases I think we may over dramatisize the whole issue. In some cases maybe not. I have heard the denomination called a cult by some. I have also seen the reaction of some when I said I was an sda. To me I consider the fact that God's remnant will not be looked upon in a favorable light just before the Lord comes back. The more unpopular we are with the world or the mainstream may mean we are closer to God and His word.

Becoming a child of the King is not easy. It means turning our backs on some of the things of this world that we used to enjoy, like an ice cold beer, or Bar "B" que spare ribs. It means dedicating ourselves to His plan of salvation and letting go of most of this worlds toys and pleasures no matter what they are.

God Bless

Hi Dania!
I'm not an Adventist but consider you and the others brothers and sisters in Christ. I have many SDA relatives and go to your church occasionally. I find it interesting and sometimes profitable to "discuss" certain points of doctrine. If you find these discussions disconcerting, perhaps you should aviod the debate section of this forum. At any rate, God bless you as you walk in Him!

i am seventh day adventist cause i believe in the 2nd advent of christ.. and i believe that the seventh day is holy and sanctified and i aim to treat it that way..

however the other questionable things that the seventh adventist believe in.. things in a grey area. i X them out altogether.. the clean and unclean meat thing.. lol I STOP EATING MEAT ALTOGETHER.. the jewelry issue .. i stopped not only that.. but make up etc... for i dont see it as helping me come closer to GOD.. however as i search to see if its really wrong.. i may put on jewelry ... like on my wedding or my prom night. i may. but i dont see it as helping me draw closer to GOD so i try to divert my attention from those worldly things

You will notce that I have highlighted the most important part of his statement.

The reason he has said this is because it can be very confusing listening to the pros and cons given concerning any given question or topic. Because of this possible confusion you may want to post in the New Adventist/Bible Study sub-forum. There you will get only direct answers to your questions without debate. Also all answers will be in accordence with biblical teaching and the beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Respectfully, your brother in Christ,
Doc

The Bible is actually quite clear:

Wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging and whoever is deceived thereby is a fool.

Not too recently on an Oprah show they noted that even one glass of wine negatively affects one's decision making.

Your right Doc.
I would absolutely detest it if I were the cause of a new Christian, Adventist or not, to question the foundation of our faith which is Christ Jesus. I would imagine things in this section could be a bit disconcerting to a new believer, and I don't want to contribute to that.
Thanks and God bless! Ricker
