Hey guys :)

these days im getting in agruments with my mom about ways to get in to heaven. In my opinion there is only one way to get into heaven, through Jesus Christ. Im sure most ppl here feel the same way so i was wondering if you guys could help me with bible passages, or good arguments to back me up.

i have been trying my best to convince her that all religions don't lead up the same mountain( meaning all take us to the same heaven), and that "good people, Christian or not , as long as they are good, they will get into heaven" is not true, even though i tell her no-one is good in the true form of the word, ie deserving to get into heaven, without Jesus. She says, no mean trying to be good.....

Any advice?

God Bless
Mike

PS thank you for your time in reading this:thumbsup:

Michael is trying to get his Mom to SEE THE LIGHT: "these days im getting in arguments with my mom about ways to get in to heaven. Jesus teaches us to have Love.
If your Spiritual teachings are causing arguments, then you are NOT following the teachings of our Lord.

I would take a 6-month vacation from trying to bull-doze your Mom into believing what you now believe.

Give her some time to relax from all of these arguments your have started with her.
Then, after some time off, she might be more receptive to your message.

Personally, I wouldn't get into arguments over this subject, especially with my Mom.
Please remember the Commandment: "Honor thy Father and Mother."
This doesn't mean that you have to OBEY them, but I think it means that you shouldn't belittle them for their ignorance.

Do you think it would be just or fair if a good person went to hell just because they grew up an aborigine and never heard Christ's message?

What does it mean to you to have Christ as your savior? Does it mean following a particular ritual? Does it mean going to a specific Church? Or does it mean living a life of unconditional love and transformation?

Should not God evaluate the transformation, not some test or ritual?

Rage4Christ- Wasn't that Addressed at some point in the Bible? And isn't that our failure as followers? Though it's hard to swallow.

And to answer your question.
If it's causing and argument it's no longer sharing your faith, it's fighting. It's a dispute and that's not healthy.

Actions speak a lot of words.
So let your actions speak, respectfully, to your mother for now.
And pray that God would soften her heart... and yours as well so instead of arguing you might converse and better understand eachother.

Who knows? I bet you both could learn a great deal.

Agreed. Jesus said He didn't come to bring peace, but division [Lk: 12:51-53], and that a person's enemies will be that of his own house. [Mat 10:36]

God is love but God is also holy and just. All the Law transcribes on two rules: loving the Lord with all you have, and loving others like yourself.

For example, what if, while a person was sleeping, their house caught on fire? If you loved that person, you would alert them about it, you would bring it to their attention; that if they didn't get out of the fire, they would be killed.
Same thing. The person who doesn't know Christ is unaware that their life is in danger. If you love that person, you'll show them a way out of the burning fire. Loving someone isn't about the tolerance of their ignorance: God's people perishes because of ignorance!

However,... I do agree that you shouldn't belittle your mom. By all means, be polite and kind, and pray. As the person above me said, you may want to put the witnessing on ice with your mom for a while, since it caused some friction. But be keep studying. Keep reading the Word. You'll be given another chance to share again, and this time you'll better at a conveying what you have to say.

As far as scriptural help, one site that helped me was:
thegoodpersontest.com . Simple but truthful.

Keep on praying for Mom. Yes there is only way to heaven through Jesus Christ. Be a witness whe she challenges you just be free to let her know it does not help you but also say why. We are never responsible for anothers salvation. It is hard but God knows your mothers heart. The only advice is to keep her on your prayer list and when you see her just be real. Thats all God asks us is to be truthful. Yes the truth hurts but it will set us free.

Rage4Christ asks: "Do you think it would be just or fair if a good person went to hell just because they grew up an aborigine and never heard Christ's message?

It is ABSOLUTELY fair for God to invite whomever He wants into Heaven.

God created Heaven and Earth.
Some people God creates are going to (eventually) go to Heaven.
All of the rest of the people God created are NOT going to Heaven.

"Should not God evaluate the transformation, not some test or ritual?"

God should grade me any way God chooses to grade me.
If God chooses to grant me Heaven, it is because Jesus Christ has asked Him to.
I don't go around Second-guessing God, and grading God for the way I think He should act.

You asked for scriptures:

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

Rom 10:9-10 .. if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved .

... and there are others. The exclusivity of Jesus as the way to heaven is one of the biggest stumbling blocks for unbelievers. They want it to be a democracy, to *vote* for their favorite god. They also don't want there to be judgment and hell, but sin had to be atoned for and God made a way through Jesus, the *only* way.

But avoiding hell is not the only reason for accepting Jesus, being His disciple has amazing rewards *this* side of heaven too. I'll pray that your mother learn about the real Jesus, and fall in love with Him. :prayer:

Thank you for all of your comments and time

Im sorry if i made it out to seem like we are arguing in an agressive sense, its more like sharing of opinions....this is what i believe etc etc. i dont even bring these things up, they just come up.

I do not in any way " belittle my mom.", and personally i do take a bit of offence to that. when these conersations come up its because they just happen to or she brings them up, not me.

Thanks for your time though....

Those are perfect examples of the exclusivity of Heaven. Very well done

Hi Michael,

There are a number of Scriptures that talk about "eternal life", and I sent a few of them to you via PM. I'll see if I can find the others.

There are many thoughts, and when we come to some commonsense, we can see at times how rediculous religion can be.

But HIS WORDS are not rediculous and the mysteries of them are deeply planted within the words.

Sadly, many of those words that had a very specific meaning have been removed, misrepresented, distorted, and perverted, that any similiarity between these new interpretations to the Authorised version, KJV, are purely coincidental.

Take no offense to these responses, just as Jesus took no offense to those who crucified Him. I imagine your already doing this but make sure your constantly praying for her. It wouldn't hurt to put her name on some prayer lists as well. I heard a saying once, "People can reject your message and be unacceptant of your love but they are defenseless against your prayers. There is no one better to open her eyes then the one who created them.

Is your mom a Christian?

Ephesians 6:11-13

11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.

2 Corinthians 4
1Therefore, since through God's mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. 2Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 3And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. 6For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness,"made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

7But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. 12So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.
13It is written: "I believed; therefore I have spoken."[b]With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak, 14because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence. 15All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. 16Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Don't give up!

Clearer words would have helped us out a lot.
We didn't mean to offend you at all! :)

Keep talking and sharing then, as long as there's not tension there's no problem. Perhaps your mom's mor einterested in what you're saying than you might think... She keeps bringing it up.

:)
I said a prayer for her and yourself.
Goodluck :)!

Micheal2308,
Sorry if my questions made you feel attacked.
I was trying to make a point. Other people started assuming things and answering my questions including in their answer things about assumptions I didn't make or ask, when all I wanted was you to answer the questions.

I think I have an idea of compromise for you and your mother. If you're still interested that would be great.

I could give you an anology to use. I haven't read the entire thread but assume people have provided passages. The analogy is like going to the local train station where you live and trying to buy a ticket using Australian dollars. It doesn't matter how much belief you have that those Aussie dollars will be good enough the fact is they won't. Faith and belief must be based on the right thing otherwise it is useless. Then you tie that in with passages showing one way to heaven is through Christ.
