  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

 I am curious to those who practice scientology or universalists. What is this religion about? What do you believe? I know someone who is a universalist and I am just wanting to know more about this religion.

http://www.uua.org/aboutuu/ (although Universalism extends far greater than just the Unitarian Universalist Association; I'm not sure which your friend is).

Thanks for the websites. I looked at the scientology first and was rather distrurbed to find out that they are just brain washing people for their money. Then the universalists, interesting since they are a combination of jewish and christian beliefs. Don't jewish and christian beliefs differ? Or is that only in catholic terms. In any case, I have heard a rumor (possibly) but the universalists also cater to people who practice other beliefs such as wiccan and budhism. Overall I am very confused on these so called religions when I don't understand what they offer for people? Does any of this make sense?

I'd say that it doesn't matter what they offer. People are simply in these religions because it's what the person beleives, regardless of whatever benefits they get.

After all, the "correct" religion does not mean the one that makes you happy. I cannot change the correct choice depending on whatever I beleive. For example although I am an athiest, and being a christian would be much easier, I just don't beleive it. Make sense?

[EDIT] Scientology actually brainwashes you though, scarily enough.

Namaste all,

the Unitarians and the Universalists combined to make the UU Church (unitairan universalist church). we had a Buddhist monk and a UU minister officiate our wedding and the UU church that is near us has all the major religions symbols displayed...

Tao, Buddist, Christian, Muslim, Jewish and so forth... it was really quite uplifting :)
