I came across something about the Catholic view of relics and thought I'd share.. it's not magic and we don't worship them.. here's from Catholic Answers:

here's an article about a specific example of a Saint's relics, and what veneration is like on a more practical level:

A relic is an object or a personal item of religious significance, carefully preserved with an air of veneration as a tangible memorial. Relics are an important aspect of some forms of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, shamanism, and many other religions.

The word
relic comes from the Latin reliquiae ('remains'). A reliquary is a shrine that houses one or more relics.

In native religious, there is the strong and rather universal concept of manna.

Manna is a kind of "supernatural power" which may be used and manipulated by some who have particular abilities in that regard. Manna resides in the gods but also in people - especially certain people. Manna can "transferred" and "stored" or "housed" in what may be thought of as "manna-charged" items. Rather like supernatural batteries.

Some primative people believe that a person's "manna" remains after their death - leading some to cannibalism (not consume the person but their manna!), some American natives believed this is "stored" at the top of the head (thus scalping dead victims so as to bring their manna). To possess this "manna battery" is to have additional manna at one's disposal.

Which has nothing to do with Christian relics.

Yeah. I was wondering what CJ's post had to do with Elisha's bones, the hem of Christ's cloak or Peter's handkerchiefs or his shadow.

The hemorraging woman was healed by faith...NOT a robe or a shadow, sheesh...that analogy flies in the face of all the NT

actually you have the wrong understanding of relics brother if you think this. Because we don't believe it's the relics that heal people. But God works through them because of people's faith. Just like with Elisha's bones. As it says in the OP:

It is intellectual dishonesty to claim that relics are not worshipped. Just look at how many people treat them, or the supposed mary images in toast. Just look at how some people react when someone else tries to point out the biblical approach to such things.

Do some people view relics in a proper light? Of course, but to deny that they are worshipped is wrong.

People belive in the bible by faith not by conclusive proof.

People belive in the power of God in relics by faith not by conclusive proof.

It only flies in the face of dbl standards being presented.

Probably because when others use a "biblical approach." More often then not it's a double standard at aimed at the "error" of someone's ways.

is the opposite of worship disrespect?

people just respect relics. Worship is not defined by external actions or how it "looks like", but by the intention. And only God and the people who venerate relics know their intentions.

If these aren’t examples of the use of relics, what are?

2 Kings 18:4 (English Standard Version)

4 He removed the high places and broke the pillars and cut down the Asherah. And he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the people of Israel had made offerings to it (it was called Nehushtan).

That was, until Hezekiah did right by God and destroyed it. You should do the same with your "holy prepuces," "sacred lances," "true crosses," and other assorted "sacred" relics.

Why stop there? Why not Bibles? Let just go back to "me and Jesus"
