This month's alert focuses on the case of Bhutanese pastor Tandin Wangyal. Tandin could be the first Christian pastor in Bhutan to assert his legal rights in a court under a democratic government. The country was ruled by the Druk Gyalpo (Dragon King) until 2008, when the king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, changed Bhutan from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional one with a democratic parliament. A government body was established to regulate religious organisations but it has yet to recognise Christianity as an official religion, alongside Buddhism and Hinduism.

Iran – Following our recent Faith and Freedom Tour with Iranian prisoners of faith, Vahik and Sonia Abrahamian, we have received a significant number of cards and letters of encouragement specifically for some of our Iranian brothers and sisters in Christ including Pastor Behnam Irani.
In a recent letter from prison Pastor Irani wrote:
'I am serving my six-year prison sentence on charges of my belief in Jesus Christ and evangelising (for) the kingdom of God. It is a great privilege to talk to my beloved family in Jesus.
'Many of my cellmates in prison ask me why I am paying such a huge price for my belief in Jesus Christ. They ask me why I don't just deny my belief and go back to my wife and children. I then ask myself: what cost did the Lord pay to save me, and to transfer me from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light? The death of Jesus Christ on the cross, the blood of the Lamb of God! Yes this is a huge price. Therefore I am also able to prefer prison over being set free. I have decided to keep my faith in our Lord and stay in prison. Jesus said: if you love your life more than me then you do not deserve me.'
On October 19, an Islamic court sentenced Pastor Irani to a further six years' imprisonment. He will be sent to Zabol prison on the Afghanistan border. Zabol houses many dangerous criminals.
Please continue to pray for Behnam and his family and for other Iranian Prisoners of Faith.
