CHINA Church kindergarten workers jailed
Three Chinese Christians have been sentenced to two years in jail over their involvement in a church-run nursery school. A printer who produced 'illegal' textbooks for Hualin Kindergarten was sentenced to 21 months in prison.
Our partner China Aid reports that the four were convicted on Friday of 'illegal business operations' at Hualin Kindergarten in southern Guangxi region. The nursery was run by Liangren Church in Guangzhou, whose congregation has suffered intense persecution.
The church reported last year that almost all of its core staff had been detained, after church members were involved in an outreach to a neighbouring region (Prayer Alert, July 4). Several kindergartens and businesses linked to the church were raided or shut down.
The Christians convicted on Friday were kindergarten director Cheng Jie, church elder Huang Quirui and church member Li Jiato, a mother of two young children. They were also fined 5,000 yuan (£530). The printer, Fang Bin, was fined 4,000 yuan.
PLEASE PRAY NOW that the four detainees would be able to lodge an appeal and be released, and that they and their families will know God's peace, presence and comfort.

NEWS UPDATES:
Please continue to pray for Christians in the Zhejiang province of China, whose churches have been targeted in an apparently ongoing demolition campaign. Members of Zengshan Christian Church in Wenzhou city have received a second written order that they surrender their building, which they have been occupying for months. Officials are threatening to fine them 78,125 yuan for 'illegal occupation'. The church has already had its cross removed. Three churches had their crosses removed in the first week of April contradicting reports the government campaign was over (Prayer Alert, April 21). (Source: China Aid)
Pray too for calm in Youhannabad, a Christian colony of Lahore, Pakistan, where twin church bombings sparked riots last month (Prayer Alert, March 16). Pray for Release partners who are bringing a legal challenge to police action in connection with the incident. Scores of Christians were detained over the murder of two terrorist suspects.
