Do you believe that we will have our earthly relationships to each other in heaven. I have always been told that we will know our loved ones but that we won't be related. In other words, I will know my grandparents were important to me on earth but I won't know they are my grandparents. My husband believes that we will have our same relationships in heaven. I was just wondering what other people think our relationships will be like. Also if anyone know any scripture references where I can read more that would be great too.

I'm sure we will have relationships with people in heaven that we knew in Earth. We just won't be 'related' because we'll have new bodies. We won't be "flesh and blood relations" because we won't have our old flesh and blood (or genes.)

We'll all be related as Christians...we're all adopted into Christ's family...therefore we will be related, but it won't be like "I'm more closely related to you because you were my mother on earth than I am to my best friend from earth"...

The only scriptual examples I can think of are the scriptures where it says "we are all heirs" and the one that says in heaven we "will not marry or be given in marriage"

I'm so excited to be going to heaven. But when I think about my husband and I not being married anymore...it's kind of sad :(
On one hand, it seems sad, but on the other hand, I think our relationships with others in heaven will be even closer than anything we've experienced on earth. I'm sure it'll be a much more fulfilling bond in heaven. :)

Kind of like different levels of intimacy on earth...dating, engagement, marriage...once we get to the marriage level, we think it's the most intimate level, but what if your heaven relationships are even more intimate than that? It'd be like saying...I'm engaged, and I'll be sad to think about not being engaged anymore. When all along there's something better waiting just past that step. ;)

It's been my thougth that we won't have the same relationships in heaven. I draw this conclusion from two verses:

1) Matt 22: 23-32

2) Rev 21:4

I could be wrong...but it's also been my thought (based on the last vs) that we will be too centered on God to care or notice those around us. But that's just my opinion:)

I agree that our focus will probably be totally on God and our other relationships won't really matter like we think they matter today. I mean, obviously there will be perfect harmony between the saints in heaven and no strive among us. That will be great!

Just a couple of days ago my theology professor said something about this.

In Christ, all of us are brothers and sisters. This is our primary relationship. My mother and husband and children are all my brothers and sisters. In heaven these brother-sister bonds will be our primary relationships.

I don't think this means we won't remember our earthly family relationships. They just won't be the relationships that most strongly affect the way we relate to one another.
