Prayer is an important part. You should pray more thn once a day. Set time during your prayers to be quiet. Pray goes two ways, listening and talking. Tell the Lord that you desire a relationship with Him. Also, seek the Lord and study the Bible. A good book is by Joyce Meyer called: Knowing God Intimantely, it's really good.

God decides who He wants to have a personal relationship with and His decision seems to be based on a persons spiritual maturity. The Holy Spirit sometimes speakes to me about people and He has just done so about you.God is going to honor your faith and your desire to be close to Him.To make this happen,God has to create a miracle. And it has a name. It's called the baptism of the Holy Ghost. If you go to John 3:3-9 you'll see that Jesus makes it very clear that salvation can not occur until God personally selects us through this miracle experience. So actually you haven't been saved for ten years at all. You've just been terribly misled into believing that. But you're about to be.Just keep up your spiritual activities including and especially keeping the sabbath day - the whole day - holy. And keep praying for your miracle to happen soon.Ask God regularly to baptize you with the Holy Ghost.Don't worry,GOD IS COMING AFTER YOU. Now start praising God for His goodness and mercy.

Hi Ocean,

You do not have to do anything special, rise to some nebulous place of maturity, or get some special gift in order for God to desire intimacy with you. God created you for the express purpose of having an intimate relationship with Him. He provided the way for salvation so you could have an intimate relationship with Him. Please dont let anyone tell you any different.

Lily had some great council. I've not read that particular book, but I've heard some of Joyce Meyer's teaching on being in God's presence and it revolutionized my relationship with Him. Her teaching helped me to realize that type of intimacy really is avialable to me and not just those who are walking on some high spiritual plane that I'll never attain to!

So go for it! Seek intimacy with Him as if it was the very air you breathe. I promise, He wont disapoint you.

first thing first: ask God about it, pray to Him about your problem.
don't ever do anything with praying, for praying is our communication channel to God.

you should talk to some mature christians in church about it.. um, what is it to have a relationship with Him? to me, it's to walk the day with God in mind. I'd thank God for a narrow miss on the road, tell Him my fears of the day, ask Him to settle me down for work...

see Him not as someone so high above that you can't reach, but someone right beside you that you can reveal your whole self to Him as a child to a father or as a friend to friend.

and also, don't leave out the bible. :)

How do you get a relationship with God? I've been saved 10 years but I dunno how to really have a relationship with Him

:help:

:) Hello Oceanofdreamz,

First thing to say - since the moment you were saved you HAVE been in a relationship with God! However I do know what you mean.

I'd agree with the previous posts - all these things will further develop that relationship and help you to love and serve Him.

Sometimes we can rely on feelings too much - I've had some times I've felt really close to God, aware of His presence, but most of the time, including at present, I don't have that obvious sense of Him with me.
But the fact is, because God has reached out and rescued me and called me His own, the relationship stands, regardless of my emotional ups and downs.

We must listen to the inner urge of His Spirit to pray and seek Him more, but
it doesn't all depend on us - He will keep hold of His children:

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.
1 Thess. 5:23-24

Blessings on your journey, Susana
