If it was not possible to question God or experience him even then we wouldn't have the choice he gave us. The bible speaks that if we learn to truely fear him and fall away we are most likely to never return. I wish I had the word to point it out but I am at work. So yes it is most certainly easy to "experience the love of christ" and turn and lie or walk away saying we did and had no feeling at all of God.
For God knows your heart and if you don't seek him with your best motives you won't really feel like he has just be made no.1 in your life. We have all sinned and God forgives so the feeling of God releasing the pain of all our past mistakes is the feeling I get every once in awhile when I pray. Its not that I have seen anything or had big "impossible but it happened to me type of things" (but I did have a vision when I was younger) its just that the Holy Spirit gave me comfort or the word of God at times when I needed them most and I knew in that instant that God truely loved me.
It might sound like a total brain-washed christian story to some athiest but its the fact that God makes us humble in faith.
