I went to the BMV at lunch today to get my new plates and on the way out I was asked by a man from Zimbabwe if I could help him. He needed a ride to a driving school nearby. I said sure and we got in my car. I asked him where he was from and he said Zimbabwe. I asked him if that was the country near the congo and who the leader was. He said it's Robert Mugabe and I said oh, I've heard all about that guy, he's worth billions and has stashed his billions all over the world while his people starve. He said yeah, that's the guy, and we talked about him for a while.
Then I said, well you know what Jesus says about that "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?". Then I asked him what religion he was, he said umm Christian I think. Then I asked him what he thinks it means to be a Christian. He said something vague about going to church. I then began to give him the Gospel by using an analogy about a traffic judge who requires the fine to be paid, even if it is your first ticket and you promise to never break the law again. How God is just and requires the penalty to be paid. How God himself became a man (Jesus) to pay the infinite penalty we cannot pay. He seemed to understand.
When we arrived at our destination I asked him if he'd like to pray, so I led him through a prayer, gave him one of my Jack Chick tracts "back from the dead" and told him to go get a KJV Bible and pray that God would lead him to other believers. I didn't even get this man's name, but oh what a wonderful way to spend lunch. Please pray for this man and his family, and that God will guide him.
