Rejoice in the Lord always

The Lord has been my friend, my strength, my salvation. Amen. Today i am meditating on rejoicing always.


Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

This verse has always intrigued me. How does one rejoice in sorrow?

2 Corinthians 6:10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

Yes, it can seem such a contradictory quagmire...

yet, God's grace supersedes and the bottom line becomes clearer with the clarity that only GOD can give, and that is that, in spite of sorrow, hardship, persecution, and excruciating pain, God's TRUTH becomes more "solidly" ingrained in the very fibers of our hearts, souls, and minds, that HE awaits us at the end of a long, dark, and arduous tunnel, and WITH Him aqll of heaven rejoices WITH our God, Who rejoices over us with singing. THIS is what has been planted in the very fibers of our hearts by God Himself, and nothing but nothing can remove it.

This verse comes to mind:

"Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." ~Romans 8:37

Thank you brinny. This verse just came to mind. Paul gloried in hardship, necessities and persecution, because the power of Christ would rest on him. I believe the power he spoke of was Gods love. Romans 5 says "we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us" Perhaps rejoicing in sorrow is much like glorying in tribulation.

2 Corinthians 12:9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

In Philippians 4 it's good to see the themes of joy, thanksgiving and prayer all interrelated.

Because when sorrowful you can take solace in the Lord Almighty, comforted and lifted up. When broken you lean on the Lord. So the rejoicing comes from what He gives rather than your circumstances.

For they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.

For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

In a world that's so awful, it's good to find ways of rejoicing Biblically!
