  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Anyone here a member of this group? I have been trying to find out more about them. I have a friend at my school who is a member, and she has a very powerful prayer life, and the group seems very orthodox, which I personally prefer. I've heard some negative things, supposedly all untrue about the founder.

That is only one archbishop. As far as I am concerned, if the Pope allows them to exist, then there isn't a problem. I think a lot of these bishops that do have issues with them, they are not a big fan of the orthodox approach they take. Too many liberal Catholics in the Church who want to make change, and these guys want to stick to the traditional ways.

In addition to the Archbishop of Baltimore's restrictions, the group has been banned in the Archdiocese of Minnesota and the Diocese of Columbus by the ordinaries in each of those locations:

I want to be clear that I am in no way taking sides in this. I am just sharing information I've come across so that folks have more background, since someone inquired as to what people knew, seeking to learn more. I personally don't know enough about the group to have a strong opinion.

I have friends who are involved. The parents are members. The kids took part in a lot of the retreats and things when they were young. Overall it's a good group from what I can tell. Traditional Catholics. The one thing that most of the family would agree upon as a potential negative is that the school and the retreat programs can be a bit militaristic. But for some people that's not a bad thing.

Transparency has been an issue for them as well as diocesan cooperation with their priests. Their priests are open to visiting homes and providing Mass when local churches are available with a reasonable Mass schedule. In most dioceses, any visiting priest to the area who wishes to assist at a Mass is to notify the local parish and assist at a scheduled public Mass. Only if there are no local parishes with Masses on a given day are they allowed to say Mass otherwise and even then they should be letting the Bishop know in advance. This appears to some diocese to be a disrespectful behavior and they have called them on it, not always with success.

The unwillingness to subordinate to the local diocesan authority is a little disconcerting to me. I actually do understand it to some degree because we have a lot of liberal parish communities that have styles of worship that would be controversial to most traditional priests. I don't know that I agree with not speaking to the Bishop though because while we have those parishes in our diocese, we also have some traditional parishes and our bishop is awesome.

Again, my friends are good people and they like it overall. They wanted a deeper walk and found it through Regnum Christi.

Take it for what it's worth.
